Halak isn't chopped liver here - I think those other players in the deal are very critical to assessing any deal.

He is ok with either. He wants in return one of Zetterburg, Semin, koivu or granlund. I would trade halak and get a player back. Probably a 50-60 point guy. Possibly tarasenko.

I would trade Halak + Granlund for Ward + Tarasenko. Granlund/Tarasenko is a pretty lateral move so you're basically just upgrading in goal.

I'm not sure Granlund will be enough.

I gotta tell you that as I look at this, if Howard is perceived to have more value than either Ward or Schneider I would be trying to trade him straight up for either of those goalies and keeping Halak as the 3rd goalie.

I know that if you are being required to dish substantially in the other player in the deal that I would walk away and be quite happy that Halak was my 3rd goalie.

Just to make sure all the facts are clear - isn't this the same league that you only count the total points of your top two goalies at the end of the season? That may change the answers (or maybe not) but it's important to have all the details given. If so, you should add that info to your signature to make sure everyone is on the same page.

Yes it is points only and only my top two goalies count. Halak just simply won't count. The third goalie is more for insurance for injuries.

I completely agree with Dyz on this one. If your scoring categories involved goaltender ratios, then Schneider would likely be a better "third" option than Cam Ward, but since all we're worried about are wins and shutouts, you have to go with the guy who is all but guaranteed to start 70+ games in an 82-game schedule.

Ward is going to play more games, he has an incredibly excellent track record, he is still in his playing prime, and the team behind him is much improved goin into the season.

Cam Ward for me in this format, by a considerable margin in fact. Given that you only count your top two goaltenders, I think Rinne/Ward will end up being your top goalies, whereas Schneider *may* not play enough to outscore Rinne or Howard. I'd say Schneider is a safe bet to outscore Howard, but Ward will be even more valuable still.

Any chance you could flip Howard, whose perceived value may be a bit higher?

Ok, I like the suggestion pursuing a deal to send Howard rather than Halak - can that be done? What you get back depends on that manager, and would rather Ward just to ensure you have two workhorse goalies. That being said, maybe Schneider could become one after this year. This raises another question, at the moment you are keeping two goalies, so depending on who you acquire, would you still be dropping your third at the end of the year? What deal you make should factor this in as well.

2) Lack is as capable or even more capable than Schneider was at the same age. Look what happened when Schneider came onto the scene in Vancouver - Luongo's starts dropped from ~75 a year to ~60.

Basically I'm saying Lack is as capable if not more capable of a backup than Schneider and that, combined with Schneider's limited starts to date, gives Vancouver little to no reason to throw 70 starts his way.
Luongo averaged 61 starts the two years before Schneider with Raycroft/Sanford/Labarbera as backups, and 58 for the two years Schneider was the backup. You may have a point that Lack will prevent Schneider from starting 75 games per year, but then again it's been 3 years since any goalie has started 75 games.
