Who do you think is the best option for a points only league (G=1, A=1) and what can we expect point wise for the next three years? Is there any other young defensemen that deserve to be in this group?

Thanks!

I went with Rielly out of the trio.

Murph is a boom-or-bust lottery ticket in a system that already features Corvo, Pitkanen, Faulk and McBain. Murray is on a dog team that has 2 young (established) defensemen locking up major PP time with Johnson and Wiz.

I think Rielly's offensive upside is close to (or on par with) Murphy but his overall game and defensive instincts are superior. I think in the near future, Rielly and Phaneuf will be running a Leafs PP that is near the top of the NHL IMO.

But to answer your other question - yes, there are other great young defensemen:

Nathan Beaulieu
Justin Schultz
Mathew Dumba
Adam Larsson
Stefan Elliott
Dougie Hamilton
Mark Barberio
Cody Ceci
Hampus Lindholm
Griffin Reinhart
etc.

Murphy

Dumba
Rielly
Murray

In a points only keeper.

Offensively Murphy is just on another level. I think Rielly and Dumba have the same offensive upside, I just love Dumba's situation more. Murray isn't as far behind as people think, but he doesn't have quite the same top end.

Tough call. First off I don't think Murray is as offensively gifted as Murphy and Reilly. Don't get me wrong, I consider him under rated but still not as offensive minded as the other two.

I personally voted for Murphy. I love Reilly but I just think Murphy is one step of him offensively. Not to mention, the year prior to this, everyone talked about Murphy the same way people are talking about Reilly this year. Next year, there will be another D drafted and he will be better then Reilly. It's a vicious circle.

I've considered Murphy one of the most offensively gifted prospect D for some time now. Reilly is special, but I have thought the same about Murphy longer. I will stick with that.

I like Murphy here, and I actually think his situation is better than Rielly's in TO. Rielly was a ppg player in his draft year (18 pts in 18 gms), but Murphy's draft year was much more impressive as he played at a 1.25 ppg clip (26-53-79 in 63 gms).. He is the most dynamic offensive dman prospect out there and a year further along in his development compared to Rielly as well. Pretty easy choice for me.

I went with Murray. I think he is just the best prospect in the game, will get the minutes in all situations + confidence from his coach. Best opportunity since he's on a rebuilding team. His offense is no slouch.

I would rank Murphy 3rd myself. Never been a fan of him, and I don't think his game will work in the NHL all too effectively. D-men and forwards in the O have just let him skate freely and give him all the space in the world to rush the puck. He's already off to a horrible start in his 4th year of junior hockey as well.

Think this thread goes to show you can't really go wrong with any of them, it's all personal preference.

Murphy has the highest upside in my mind, but a lot of competition in CAR.

Rielly has the next highest upside, but is the least likely to reach it out of the 3 IMO.

Murray has the lowest upside (though it's still high) but is the safest bet to reach it - my biggest issue with him is with JJ/Wiz/Tyutin/Nikitin/Moore/Erixon/Savard in the mix... where does he fit in? Might not get prime offensive opportunities any time soon.
