IMO it is a decent trade,

tough to lose Perry, (obvious best player in deal if you subscribe to the theory of best player wins the trade),

but I like the package of

Cally, Backes, Patches & duchene... plus the 1st really puts it over the top...

3 of them are great multi-cat players who will more then make up the difference.

IMO, too much elite-level scoring lost in exchange for grinders and guys who are not there yet. I doubt the Perry/Nash/Vanek scoring combination can be replaced.

Without seeing your team it's almost impossible to say who wins. I think Perry/Nash are the 2 best players in the trade but if the addition of the extra pieces fills a need for team depth then the trade could go the other way.

I don't like the trade too much on the Backes side, solid peripherals but here's the issues:
Backes plays for the Blues who score by committee and are on a defense first team, and as was pointed out by one of the dobber experts, his scoring went down when Andy Mac was healthy leading me to believe he plays a more secondary role
Callahan was traded to CLB, way worse supporting cast but likely an increased role, ideally it offsets
Patches I like but to say the Deharnais-Cole-Patches line can repeat is hopeful, I'd like to think so since they have great chem but teams will be looking to shut them down and there isn't much realy depth behind them
MD had a horrible season and there were rumours hitting at him and Sacco not getting along, I hope he rebounds but he could be in tough
The 1st round pick is nice but it depends what sort of player you can get with it, late first or early first?

Nash - going to NYR where he will have many weapons to work with and just day vs night all around compared to CLB
Perry, lots of upside there since Getz had an off year. Maybe we saw Perry's ceiling but if this was his floor you're laughing
Vanek, Buf seemed great on paper last year and this year they just got better, I love the Ott trade, it'll be alot tougher to mess with Miller this time. I think we can expect more out of Buf this year and Vanek is sure to benefit

Thank you for your opinions. FYI: I wasnt a part of this trade.

I ALSO FORGOT THAT THERE IS FOW CAT and the Backes Team also received OEL

and.. The team that got Backes was last in Blocked shots, and Hits last year

Note: Cally was not traded to CBj
Note: Nash not Neal

You could argue that Callahan would have a higher upside if he had been traded to Columbus. With the addition of Nash on Broadway, Callahan is gonna get pushed off the top line / top minutes, and his offense could suffer. Should still be an amazing multi-cat guy; however I would be more worried about his offensive production than Backes.

Is it salary cap? If so I love the Backes side.

Regardless, I still probably prefer the Backes side.
