Been offered Nash and Vanek for my Granlund and Scheifele. Initially I thought the prospects were worth keeping, as Nash and Vanek will be on the downside of their careers by the time the other two really start producing...I am more interested in long term competitiveness than short-term winning, and my team is relatively young (finished 10th in a 16 team league last year).

Vanek and Nash IMO are both 65-75 point guys, and also both 28 yrs old. Granlund and Scheifele are 20 and 19...

Any thoughts? Really hard one to analyse for me...

I'm of the opinion that you take proven ability over potential 90% of the time.
I would take that trade in a heartbeat.

I agree take the sure thing. If only 28, you have years left with these guys, and may be able to flipped later.
I'd do this deal f it fell in my lap.
Good Luk

By the time Nash and Vanek hit their downside it will be at least 3-5 years down the line. If you're thinking beyond that point, you're over-complicating matters. So much happens in a year of fantasy hockey, that you can easily swing trades or draft new stars to replace the long-term production of Scheifele and Granlund when the time comes.

Do the trade.

You have to take this deal and run. Worst case scenario you can trade Nash and Vanek for better prospects down the road. Proven high end talent doesn't fall in your lap everyday. Sucks to trade Granlund but you really have to pull the trigger here.

I would also do the deal.. It's always hard to deal prospects when you are so hooked on their "potential", but in this case you should deal potential for a proven commodity.

Absolutely make this deal, you know what you're getting with Nash and Vanek.

Shor termt (next three to four years), you kill this trade. After that, Scheifele and Granlund may be better than Nash and Vanek.

Well worth it though, because there is no guarantee with prospects.

The only negative to doing this trade is, if an entire year of hockey is lost, it hurts Nash and Vanek more. Besides that, there is no negative. The fact that your team is so young is all the more reason to go after PROVEN commodities. Definately do this!

I don't k ow how long term you're looking, but I wouldn't look past two years. If you think your team can compete in the next two years, you should make the deal. If you think your team isn't good enough for this year or next, then it may be better to hold back.

Thanks for the comments - the deal ended up being:

Granlund, Scheifele, McBain for Vanek, Nash and Philip Larsen

IMO Larsen and McBain are pretty close.
