Default Settle this one...

I've been going after Desharnais. Current offer on the table is 5th overall pick, plus I'll give the other guy his first-round pick back for 2013. There are 13 teams in that league, it's safe to say that his pick next year could be anywhere from 8th to 13th.

He seems to think that isn't enough. I'm curious if that's the general consensus. Fifth overall will be Filip Forsberg or perhaps Grigorenko

Here are the predictions from the best:

Prediction

THN 48 points

Forecaster 55

McKeens 57

Dobber 61

Average 55.3

I'd say that's great value for Desharnais. I'm not that high on him and getting two first rounders for a midget who I see as 60 point C at best is great value. He should have accepted the deal. I know I would have.

I say that assuming there's a farm team where he could have stashed Forsberg or whoever he drafted? If there's no farm team then that's a whole other situation.

So the offer is 5th overall in 2012, plus around 10th overall in 2013 for Desharnais. The latter pick being his own back will allow him the flexibility to jockey for draft position next year if things go wrong.

like pengwin said. if theres room to stach guys on a farm id definantly take it. if i had to play forseberge/5th. then its still ok as id get about a 10th next year and id only be losing about 10 points this year imo.

LOL, like "Carcillo" said.

Desharnais' value is relative to league settings.
In a 13-team count 6F league, it's pretty low... I like the draft picks.
In a 13-team count 9F league, it's pretty even trade, IMO.
In a 13-team count 12F league, it's moderate... I prefer Desharnais.

As Carcillo said, it hinges on being able to stash a guy on the farm until he's ready to perform.
If there is only one main roster - that's too long, IMO, to wait for a 5th/10th draft pick to develop.

I peg DD for about 50pts.

That MON line was a bit overachieving last year. I still think Plek should be considered C1 in Montreal and with a new coach (Therrien) there is no guarantee that DD is still C1 or PP1 in 2012-2013.

There's a lot of factors in play here.

As a 60pt player, Desharnais is the better side.
As a 40pt player, the prospects are the better side.

I think that what you offered was overpayment already for Desharnais. IMO he is not worth two 1st rd picks. If he is asking for more then I would walk away from this deal and maybe revist it in the future and hopefully the price wont be so high.

I have to agree with the majority of people here in that you have offered enough for a guy who might have already had his career year. His size kind of puts me off a bit. Most top centres are at least 6'1

I agree with this whole heartily. Given the other guy can likely grab a high touted prospect with one of said picks and then still have another first besides leaves him in a great position. To be honest I would never trade 1 first for Desharnais even after the numbers he posted last season, let alone 2 firsts. I mean right now I value him from anywhere to 50-60 points next season. Also factor in that top line has the possiblity to run cold and in the risk of Pleks taking his 1st line and PP duties back, gotta wonder the risk vs leash length ratio.

If I owned Desharnais and got offered two top-10 picks (one top 5) I'd be all over it. I'd moved Desharnais for one top-10 pick, let alone two.

As good as Desharnais is, he does seem replaceable in most formats. I think he just falls into that "dime a dozen" pool of players.
