I'm about to pick #15 and #16 for the second team in my sig. I think one of those will be Lack, but I'd like a winger for the other one. Which is your favourite from the guys above or is it basically a wash at this point. I care about upside more than immediate production.
Your input would be much appreciated |

I'll go with Nyquist. They're all close though.

This is tough for sure and these guys are all fairly close in upside, this will likely boil down to development, I'd rank them:
Silfverberg Nyqvist Coyle I think Silf and Nyqvist have pretty much identical upside, Coyle is just a notch below and I don't see him seeing top six minutes in Minny any time soon. Again it's so close, but Silf may have a slight edge in the development curve and is walking into a very nice situation in Ottawa where he can develop along with the rest of the young Sens core. Expectations will be tempered. I think Nyqvist will be on a shorter rope in Motor City and the road could be a bit bumpy as the Wings will not rush things as they still have a pretty impressive and deep, though aging, forward core. The bar is higher. I do think both will be given the opportunity now to play top six and see what happens. All this to say with upside being pretty much a wash, Silf may have the better path to developing and reaching and maintaing his portential than Nyqvist. But honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

Silfverberg is more of a shooter whereas Nyquist is more of a playmaker.

I think your centers (assists) are good and you need a scoring winger to get some goals, so go Silf because he's a shooter as previously stated.
1. Silf 2. Nyquist 3. Coyle

I would rank them as follows:
Nyquist=Coyle Silfverberg Although I like Silversurfer a lot as a prospect. I think he is being put up against players whom have proven far\more in the North American Game and he just doesn't have the pedigree to be deserving of it in my opinion. I fell all 3 players have the same upside, with Nyquist and Coyle being WAY more likely of hitting it!

Quote:
The ONLY pedigree Silfverberg doesn't have over Coyle is draft position. He was taken 11 picks later. At this point, draft position means exactly squat anyway, so that's argument is out the window. Nyquist was a nobody taken in the fourth round because only Hakan Andersson knew about him and then he hasn't exactly been dominant in college and the AHL. He's been good, but not crazy good. I should know, I follow the Wings religiously and Nyquist is the only NHL player ever to come out of the town I'm from. Silfverberg's play fits NA hockey. He makes quick decisions and can fire the puck from anywhere on the ice, has good skating and knows how to be responsible defensively. I'd be fine if you brought up pedigree with someone like Schwartz, but there is no way you can make an argument for either Coyle or Nyquist in terms of pedigree. Projections or upside ? Fine, that I could take because it's very much subjective, but not pedigree. There's just no way. I've seen a lot of people on different fantasy hockey sites say ignorant poopoo like this about Silfverberg this summer and it all comes down to one single thing. Ignorance. You don't know what kind of player Silfverberg is and you obviously haven't even looked up basic facts like how his season went and whatnot. His shot is deadly, he fights for pucks and doesn't shy away from physical play, he's a good passer, he scores from anywhere on the ice and he's not one-dimensional. I'm sorry, but as complete a player as Coyle is and as agreat a dangler and passer as Nyquist is, they are NOT better than Silfverberg at this point and IMO he has a higher ceiling than both. That's coming from a complete and total Wings homer.
