I will piggyback on this thread - who is better Elliot or Voynov?

Voynov's further along in his development and has a better all-round game but Elliott I'd say already is better offensively and should improve the defensive part of the game. Keep in mind that he plays for a team where Joe Sacco is a coach and not the best at having a good defensive system.

I'd say Elliott is worth the risk of having over Voynov, he seems like the real deal and his offensive instincts translated to the NHL when he was called up.

Next year, 35 points is very obtainable for S.Elliott.. I would take him over Voynov, I just have a funny feeling..

Voynov should be better this year, but Elliot will get more PP time once he cements himself as a full-time NHLer. Then he'll really take off. He's the number 1 ranked prospect defenseman. So in the future, I do think Elliot is the man here.

Depends on your format, keeper slots, emphasis on D and your expectations. If you are looking for given production NEXT season, you're better off going with Voynov who is a lock to play in the Kings top 6 and get some PP time. Long-term though, I like Elliott A LOT better than Voynov as I think Elliott is one of the most offensively-gifted, young defensemen around - period. Elliott will either be an elite offensive D guy (18-20 goals and 55-65 points) or he'll fizzle out within 3 seasons - there's really no in between with him. Personally, I have faith in the kid and think he rewards his owners big time within the next 2 years.

I think it depends on your approach... if you're planning 2-3 years down the road and have the patience and room to keep him, yes do it. If you're looking to win this year, Voynov would be a safer choice, but who knows, Elliott might steal the show in Colorado. I remember last season, I picked him up in the last round of our draft, hoping for a Shattenkirk type of introduction... he did score 3 points in his 3 first games, and hopefully it's just a glimpse of what he can do. His wristshot is insane, look at his 4 goals last year, all the same signature.

I remember watching that laser over Marty's glove last year and thinking "Ray Bourque" quality wrister. Elliott has the wheels, head and dart-like wrist shot to be an elite offensive D-Man. He needs to improve his strength, gap control, up his intensity and work on his slapper. He also needs a coach who is willing to give him top 6 minutes and let him learn on the job instead of yo-yoing him up and down from the AHL to the NHL.
