So I am a fan of Bogosian, think he is a great player... but in all honesty I guess I am not so sure why he is getting all of this love in fantasy hockey... what is his ACTUAL upside. Is he a stud dman? If he is why is he 3rd in line in the Peg? Why are there an enormous amount of people who consider him a keeper? What are his numbers going to be in years 1-3-5... what would they be if he was number 1 on his team?
Thanks!

He is very good but has two better options (Byfuglien and Enstrom) in the way.

Based on his point-per-game 17-year-old season in junior his upside is quite high - 40s are likely in the next 3 years IMO and 50s are not impossible, plus he should continue to be good for PIMs. My fear with him is he was rushed to the show before he was fully ready, but it looked to me like he was starting to make some good progress last year.
If he has a good year this year (and its his RFA year so he better) Winnipeg has a bit of a dilemma - Big Buff is signed to 2016 and Enstrom to 2018, for a combined hit of just under $11MM. Bogo is probably due for a good raise into the $4MM range, meaning Winnipeg will be tying up $15MM+ of their cap on 3 d-men. There are only a handful of teams that currently do that and I'm guessing at least a couple (e.g. Calgary) regret it. Suggests there might be a trade in Winnipeg's future, which would benefit Bogo whether its him that goes (assuming he goes somewhere he could get top pair/top PP minutes) or if one of the others do. I am targeting Bogo in my multi-cat leagues as I think there is some good value to be had here.

I think bogo will continue to get better and better as a multi-cat guy, but it's his points that concern me. There has to be either injury or movement ahead of him before he takes the next step, unless his maturity pushes Enstrom or Big Buff down.

I fully plan on targeting Bogo he is young and rising. His secondary stats are very strong (one of the best for PIM/BLK on a per game basis). His +/- got a lot better and probably will continue to do so as he is learning the game. He already got ~2.5 mins of PP time per game last year and he should be pushing for more. I like him as a late round pick in 1 year leagues and for keepers.. he can probably be re-drafted or had pretty cheaply.. definitely a guy on the rise. Oh he just turned 22 so he has a lot of time to still develope into something more.

To me, the reason why he's third in line is simply because Byfuglien has such a booming shot and is good offensively that he leads the charge...and Enstrom is there because he's so rock solid and can cover for Byfuglien's fat ass when he gets caught which is often.
Points only his value is limited to being a 30-something point defenseman IMO in the role that he's currently in. He still provides solid multi-cat value though for multi-cat leagues. |

.....hmm....call me crazy....but here's a bold prediciton I just thought of:
Bogosian emerges this year, the team is then forced to make a huge decision. They talk about trading Buff but are flirting with making the playoffs or just can't get the return they want........so they let Bogo run the point with Enstrom and move Buff in front of the net and use him as a power-foward....hey it worked before......just wishful thinking.

Bogosian was poised to have a huge break out, now hes having wrist surgery tomorrow, so hes out 4-6 months. really unfortunate news as he is my fav Dman and i already have 2 keepers on IR in kesler and gaborik. im really disappointed he waited till now to do surgery rather than when the season ended.
