Default Weekly SP Round Up

Ok guys, I'm trying something new here. The idea is to employ a writer by committee approach to post a recap for every start of the week for medium to high profile pitchers. If someone has already posted a recap of a start, please don't post another unless something was missed. So here's my first to kick it off.

David Price (SP), TB (08/21 vs KC)- Price was very sharp, allowing only 3 hits through 8 innings. He struck out 8, and didn't allow any walks. The problem was that his teammates could not solve Luke Hochevar, and the Rays lost 1-0 in 10 innings. He really looked like a Cy Young favorite in this start but was unable to get his 17th win of the season. His next outing will be Monday, the 27th, against Texas.

Steven Strasburg (SP), WSH (08/21 vs Atl)- Strasburg was sharp, allowing only 4 hits and a walk through 6 innings. While he did surrender a run, it was via a sacrifice fly. He had great movement on his pitches and struck out 10. The big surprise in this game was that Stras came out after a 55 minute rain delay and picked up right where he left off. Nationals GM Rizzo was seen surveying the conditions on the field and Strasburg apparently lobbied to be allowed to pitch further. If you need him for a playoff run, be very careful as he will likely be shutdown soon.

Wade Miley (SP), Ari 08/22 vs Miami...
Miley shut down the punch-less Marlins, allowing only 4 hits through 8 innings. He also struck out 5. JJ Putz came in and made the save.
Spin: It would be unfair to say that Miley's numbers are completely a mirage, but he's certainly had far more success against weaker line-ups than he has against strong competition. He's a great option to put in against poor teams down the stretch.

Kyle Lohse (SP), St.L 08/22 vs Houston
Lohse has been sharp virtually all season and despite allowing two early homers, tonight was no exception. The home runs were obviously bad news, but they were only solo shots and Kyle recovered immediately thereafter.

Other than the two bombs, it was vintage Lohse. Always an economical pitcher, he got through 7 innings, striking out 3, and allowing 3 hits on only 87 pitches.

Spin: While he won't earn many strikeouts, Lohse is a tremendous option in all other categories and should be a nice mid-upper level keeper option.

Funny I logged on to post something about him. He was a borderline starter earlier in the season in my deep one year roto league but decided to hold on as he's been excellent (except K). He's been stellar all season, look at these numbers:

13-2, 2.61 ERA, 1.08 WHIP.

He's one of the pleasant surprises that has kept me in top 4/5 out of 20 for most of the second half.
