Kovy, you think Neal is going to have a down year? Do you think Sidney won't be able to stay healthy?

I'm thinking the opposite that Crosby will be healthy and he'll take up a larger chunk of the offensive pie, which will in turn take some back some of the pie that went to Neal last campaign.

I wouldn't normally think of it that way. I would think that most would think that a healthy Sidney would help Neal's stats, not hurt his stats. It's definitely a very interesting perspective.

Malkin - historically performs at a substandard level (for Malkin, that is) when Crosby is healthy.

Historically Malkin has won Calder Trophy, Art Ross, Conn Smythe and Stanley Cup while playing with healthy Crosby.

I went to check this, and it turns out that Carcillo is right. I do remember several occassions where Malkin went crazy every time Sidney was injured, but was merely above-average when Sidney was healthy. The stats do bear that out in some years, however, even in bad years, Malkin is admittedly way better than most. The question was who will have a down year. I took that to mean "as compared to last year". Malkin will still be amazing, I just don't believe that he will repeat last years numbers if Sidney is around for 80 games.

People really don't think Kessel will continue that pace eh? Not that I blame them but do people realize how well Kessel played with Lupul, even before last season? It was night and day the very game Lupul played his first game as a Leaf.

If Lupul stays health for a similar amount of games as he did last year, Kessel will be a PPG player again. But of course, Lupul's health is the big question mark (although it's mainly centered around bad luck, not a continuing string of similar injuries that keep get aggravated).

Last year was his worst statistical year, and the year before that was his second worse statistical year. He has had no significant injuries over those 2 seasons.

I HOPE Oates can help. I HOPE the departure of Semin can help. I HOPE Ovechkin can turn things around and return to his former glory. I think that something needs to change in Ovechkin in order for that to happen, though.

I just wanted to point out two major things that had, imo, the caps/ovi messed up last year.

Backstrom only played 42 games last year
Coaching change

i think its fair to say that a healthy Backstrom would add 20 points to ovi's totals.

If the coaching situation was all over the map, team checking out on Boudreau and Hunter's head back in London, how could Ovi or the team get on the same page. With a new coach, offensively minded coach in Oates, the team should rebound imo.

if those two issues alone are fixed I say ovi is back to 80+ easy. Also remember under Boudreau for a season and a half he had his team playing mid 90's devils style hocky. I never understood that, sure they ran into a CRAZY HOT goalie in Halak a few seasons back which was why they lost in the playoffs that year. NOT due to their system being what it was.

now that I think about it I may try to snag Ovi while he might be affordable.

He may not be as relevant as in the past, but don't forget to place Erik Cole on the about to underwhelm list.
