Default E.Kane/Neuvirth for Luongo

I was offered this by another team
- His E.Kane/Neuvirth/1st round (#4) farm pick
for
- My Luongo/Kreider/player of my choice

I already have Schneider/Backstrom in nets and this would give me WAS's platoon (more useful for the future if Backstrom leaves Minny).

Evander Kane is who I was interested in most (would leave me solid at LW with multi-cat guys) and the #4 overall farm pick would give me (#1,4,6, 13 overall). I would then look at drafting one of Silfverberg, Coyle, Grigorenko, Forsberg, Schultz at #4 and 6.

Too much to give up Kreider in the deal? I might be able to counteroffer for both Kane and Skinner.

Again rep is given as usual for insightful replies

I would do this. You are getting the best player in the deal in Kane. Better if you were to land Skinner too.

Kane, an elite prospect + what is essentially the Washington goalies for Luo, Kreider + player X is a good deal for you. Kane = future multi cat sud.
Silfverberg, Schultz and Coyle for me.

With the uncertainty around Luongo, I don't think this is a bad call. I like Kane a lot, plus Neuvirth could surprise again and take the reins back from Holtby. Kreider is good, but I don't think he's going to be better than Kane throughout a full season. Plus, that pick lets you get 2 studs in the draft. So I like it.

I figure Backstrom may cover me for this year, and the Caps situation should settle itself (maybe one gets traded)

Just am not sure about giving up Kreider

Just over 40% of the stats are goaile ones. That's what makes this a difficult deal to justify. You already have Neal and Lucic on the left wing. While there's no harm in stockpiling talent at that position, I think you are weak in goal without Luongo. He is still an elite talent at a position that has over 40% of the stats for just two starting roster spots. After him you dont have much of a sure thing. I think I pass on this deal.

One last comment... Kane is still just potential whereas Luongo is an elite player. He'll be elite on any team. Kane may or may not develop into an elite fantasy forward. He prolly will, but there is still the risk that he won't. His development could also not be completely linear. He might take backward steps for a couple years before turning into the beast you envision.

i like both sides of this trade, but maybe your side a little more.

if you can make the counter for Skinner (assume the #4 and/or Neuvy are off the deal?) and EKane, this is a good deal for you, if you can grab the #4 as well, that would be a smokin deal.

if the counter goes sour, i think i hang onto Luongo. he will be a great starter for his new club, maybe not elite anymore, say sub-elite.

I would do this deal. Rob Lo is pretty much at the end of the road. At least Neuvy has upside. Worst case scenario, that's virtually a wash at the G position, at least in the NOW. I prefer Kane to Kreider. Getting a multi-cat kid is nice. Getting ine at LW is exceptional. Kane is still very young, and I think he outproduces Kreider. The 4th pick overall is icing on the cake. That pick will surely outproduce the player of your choice. I don't see how you pass this up. Get it done!

This is exactly what I was thinking. Luongo is the best player in this trade. I think you could do better than this. IMO Neuvirth isn't much of a goalie and I think Holtby will brush him aside in the battle for #1. I also doubt that Kane will be as good as some think he will. Not that I think he will be bad but I'm just not sure if he'll be the PPG threat that a lot of people make it sound like he will be. Also considering you'll be parting with Kreider for the 4th overall which basically means you will get a player that is probably as good as Kreider except you will have to wait 2-3 more years on him and there's a higher risk of failure. I'd pass on this trade.

I think I'd make that trade....the extra pick is the kicker since you can add Schultz where you're a little thin at defense. You take a step back in goal (Luongo is a near-elite goalie, make no mistake) but Schneider looks legit, and Backstrom will be behind a much improved team, he's still a good goalie. Having the Washington duo will be nice as your 3rd goalie since they should give you good peripheral stats.

Kreider is the toast of the town right now but remember before his playoff run there were still a lot of questions around him.....all tools no toolbox type player is what a lot of people were saying. Physically he can be a dominant player, but over 82 games no one really knows right now. I'm not saying he'll bust but he's definitely not the lock he's become in the last 3 months.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have counteroffered for Skinner instead of draft pick and will see.

I know Luongos value should go up when traded, and no rush.
