Default better goalscorer?

tavares or okposo?

dobbs has tavares for 32 and goalposo for 26

hockey news has tavares for 30 and goalposo for 30

all things being equal names aside and goalscoring ability alone, who is the better pure goalscorer? and IF its Tavares the experts seem to agree not by much

thoughts?

cant wait to see the forecaster and mckeens goal predictions

Tavares has 50 goal potential. I suspect that he'll likely settle in the 40's most years, but the potential is absolutely there for more. I don't believe that Okposo has nearly that kind of potential. If they're close in goal scoring it'll only be because Tavares' game is more well rounded, and he can use his linemates to greater effect.

Here's another thought: Tavares has scored 31 goals in a season, and he's only 21. Okposo has scored a career high 24, and he's 24 years old. Also, Tavares has twice scored more goals than games played in the OHL, once scoring 72 goals in 67 games.

I don't think their goal-scoring abilities are close, personally.

I really don't think this is very close at all. Tavares should be consistantly over 40 as early as next year. Plus, the Isles with Streit and Vis should have a pretty good PP.

didnt Moulson out goal Tavares this past year??

I certainly wouldnt say Moulson is a better goal scorer than Tavares. Just that he scored more goals. If that makes sense haha

I'd take my chances with Tavares, just cause of his incredible skill level. Not to mention Okposo's injury problems.

replys are pretty much what i thought. it was a loaded question. of course Tavares is the better goalscorer at first glance

BUT

will it translate in the NHL? will the isles need him to be a pure goalscorer or will they need him to round his game out and therefore have spread the goalscoring out?

i just found it interesting that dobber only had him pegged for 32. kind of low in my opinion. Hockey News has them both at 30? does murray townsend know something we dont?

was okposos 40 goal pace last half of season last year a fluke. there was a time he was pegged as a 40 goal man, a young iginla of sorts. now okposos old because hes 24? why does turris get benefit of the doubt and not okposo?

im rambling now but i have a feeling Tavares and Okposos goals totals may not be that far off from eachother over the next 2-3 years. the NAME Tavares and actual production are 2 different animals

i honestly believe 40 goal 'scorers' get tossed around waaay too much. ONLY 4 players scored higher than 40 goals last year

i think 35 is the new 40 goals and 25 goals is the new 30 goals

Can Tavares score 40? absolutely....just not with ease as many say and probably definitly not consistently year to year. ovy verifys this.

Tavares shoots more, has a higher career shooting percentage, and isn't an injury risk. If that doesn't convince you then look at the 09/10 World Classic. Okposo had 1 goal in 6 games, Tavares had 7 goals in 7 games. There really isn't much to discuss about this.

Coming from a guy who traded JT for Backstrom

Tavares AINEC. He's just a far superior player to KO in every way and is the better natural goalscoreer. As for who might end up scoring more goals? That's a different story and it depends on who who Tavares is lining up with on any given year. No doubt he would score more goals if he were lined up with two playmaking wingers. But as it stands with Moulson and then one of Boyes/KO on his wing this season I'm betting he won't explode and will continue on with his gradual improvement to 35 goals.
