Did anyone get the football guide? Is it good? What exactly does the playbook do?

Default Guide

Hey Letangerang, the guide is full of projections, dynasty slants, idp slants, sleepers and rankings - though it's evolving all the time, too - another update due on Tuesday or Wednesday. I think if you've ever seen a magazine on the shelf at a store for $8-12 this is that type of quality, only current within a few days instead of something sketched together months ago. The guide is also written by gamers - so you may notice a grammar flaw, but you're getting good advice from veterans who have made $$$$ and won lots of leagues.

The playbook is a written version of a walk-through draft. Basically, in print, it's like a choose-your-own-adventure guide. For example, in round 1, draft the best available from this group (top 5 players if any are left), if not take one of THESE 3 players and if not, select from this best list (8 more players). After you make your choice, it simply tells you if you took a QB, go to page 3, if you took an RB, go to page 4 and if you ended up with WR, flip to page 5. Then it walks you through round 2 and helps you construct a team as you go - pointing out bye week conflicts, value and advice on what you can get later so you don't need to get early. I think it's a good intuitive way to learn how to draft if you don't have an ironclad method of how you want to draft or to walk a novice through how to build a competitive squad with depth and balance.

Hope you love them both!

We're trying to run that fine line between useful and not useful - but the playbook DEMANDS realistic ADP be used. It's literally a walk-through of what common leagues will look like and (especially early) it's crucial to get the approximate order close to correct. Recommending you take a RB in round 3 who will never be there isn't good advice! So, I've made the decision to hold off until early next week when we should have the first 500+ drafts results available through online resources and we can average those out to tweak the advice.

Expect to be downloading the full version on 8/14 and then regular updates as you get closer to your draft.

Hope this helps - trying to get the data useful and right now it's fuzzy ):

Is there a discount if I've purchased the Dobber hockey package?

Awesome. Thanks for the info. Look forward to play around with it and maybe do a few mock drafts to see what to expect. I am a hockey buff but always wanted to have a brilliant season in FF.

Downloaded the Guide this morning while at work. Lol...bad idea as I found myself wanting to read the whole thing at my desk. BUT I managed to put it aside, looking forward to perusing it this eve over a pizza and bottle of vino, while watching more preseason games.

Thanks Dyv & Crew!

If you've bought the hockey guide and want to dig into football, send me a PM (Private message - click on my name DYV and send PM) and I'll see if I can get you a discount. No promises, but I'll ask the Dobster!

Thanks!

There is a discount.

As per Dobber's Ramblings on August 6 - from Dobber himself: "Also, I stuck a 60% off coupon code in there for the football guide, if you’re into both fantasy sports."

I haven't bought the Hockey (or Football) Guides yet so I'm not sure what page this coupon code is on but apparently it's in the Hockey Guide.
