made a couple deals today, wondering if they made me more solid to contend this year.
1st team in sig. In: Stoll, Neal, Chara, Selanne, J.Schultz, Out: Kovalchuk, Fowler, Couturier, Gardiner the rest of the pieces were 2nd or lower rd picks in the next two years of prospect drafts. so im not going to include them due to not being any more then balancers in their respective deals. selanne may only be around this year but i think if i wanna win it all he was a cheaper option at rw with upside i could go with. then he will be replaced by nyquist next year unless he stays on for a 2nd season after this last contract.

In:
Stoll, Neal, Chara, Selanne, J.Schultz, Out: Kovalchuk, Fowler, Couturier, Gardiner Kovalchuk > Neal Fowler < Chara Couturier > Stoll/Selanne Gardiner < Schultz So you win two, lose two - just becomes a matter of how large the gap is? Gardiner/Schultz is a small gap. Fowler/Chara is a fairly large gap. Factoring in age and such, Couturier/one of Stoll or Selanne is probably a big gap trade value wise but Stoll is underrated in multicat (but you won't get any trade value out of him). So going to stick with fairly big gap. So you've got one big gap in your favor, one negligible gap in your favor. Then one sizeable gap against you, then Kovy/Neal. I like Kovy quite a bit more than Neal, but if you think Neal repeat last year, it's certainly close. In my mind it comes down to Selanne + Neal vs. Kovy. Selanne + Neal probably wins in a one-year format but I'm personally taking the Kovy side... but if you think Neal repeats, that side wins. |

yeah you hit the nail on the head, kind of favoring neal due to age (future runs) and hits. feel that even if he regresses a bit shouldnt be too far still in the 70-80 range. He's really the only solid winger PIT has outside of kunitz (as in top 6 material). so imo i think he should be fine with crosby or malkin always centering him. It is a leap of faith and i am with you dyz i prefer kovy, he has always been a favorite player of mine, due to his consistency + ability to produce without much help all that time in atlanta.
also it came to eligibility (yahoo format). in case seguin + kovy are given something different next year, it could affect my depth on the rw side. i drafted yakupov due to his RW status but edm has stated they are converting him to lw in an effort to keep ebs and hemsky on rw. neal player rw and i dont think that will change altho he had dual eligibility like kovy i believe (could be wrong tho) so worst case scenario i think he becomes rw only.

I agree - I prefer the Kovie side slightly, although you did not get raked over the coals. Many would agree with your thinking - I just prefer Kovie to Neal, although with a full year of Sid feeding him the puck, Neal might actually be the better play considering that Kovie is back to being a 1 man show with Parise gone.
