Default Richards for a pick?

I'm not involved in this trade, and I think it's ridiculous. Mike Richards for a 2013 2nd round prospect pick. The pick will be 12th-24th. 2nd rounders this year were Grigensons, Wilson, Trouba, M. Subban, K. Palmieiri, Silfverberg, Vasilevski, Beualieu, Lindholm, Collberg, Stone, and Ceci.

This is not the first time this GM has made a trade that I see as ridiculous. He has also traded Fleury for Steve Mason + a 1st and 2 3rds, and Patrick Kane and a 3rd for Mike Richards and a 2nd.

So essentially he trade Patrick Kane for 2 2nd rounders. He says he has a plan and that he plans on staying in the league for a long time, but if he ever does leave it would be near impossible to find someone to take over his team.

What would be your course of action in this situation? I voiced my displeasure but was called a hypocrite because I traded Strome and Versteeg to him for Voracek and B. Schenn. I'm not sure what I should do in this situation, are these moves not as bad as I think they are?

Direct him to these forums would be the first thing I would do lol.

Umm...unless collusion is at play here I don't really know what you can do. People need to be able to manage their own team no matter how stupid they are lol.

Ok, a couple things.

Fleury for Mason and the picks, an argument can be made for that trade. Wouldn't make it myself, but an argument can be made. (The longer ago this trade was made, the better the argument. Mason had a lot of potential and a lot of people held on to that for a while.)

Kane and a 3rd for M. Richards and a 2nd is a fine trade, arguments can be made either way and I don't have any problems with that one.

M. Richards for a 2nd rounder? I cannot come up with a viable argument for making that trade and I would make a move to veto it.

Bad trade, but truth be told I've seen worse.

Not much you can reasonably do, unless there's collusion?

Pretty sure my son would be delighted to trade M Richards for a draft pick right now. Much depends on the league settings. Richards value is highly enhanced or decreased by the scoring format.

Salary Cap
In salary cap leagues, Richards struggles to be valuable, especially if you're using real NHL salary cap ($64 or $65M) with a large roster.

Small Leagues
If you only have 1/2 a dozen teams, Richards is certainly a bubble guy.

Multi-Cat
Depending on the multi-cat setup, he is enhanced or decreased. If the CATS are his specialties, and he has a few, then he can be quite valuable.

Straight Points
Lately, he's been more tease than satisfaction. 44 points last year don't get your mojo running. The three or four seasons prior to that were more satisfying. (I would anticipate a bounce back to 65-70 range)

Limited Keeper
Depending upon how many keepers a league has, he can be clearly out of the mix.

So, at my house, I'm listening to the "TIME TO GET HIM OUT OF HERE" discussion, and it has it's points.

In my salary cap league, I'm not looking to acquire him.

In a league in which you keep all players, and don't have a salary cap, I might be looking to buy him 'low' right now. I do believe he's a world class commodity and that there are more exciting seasons in his future. However, playing in the Western Conference, won't help his numbers. It's a lower scoring game than in the Eastern Conference. LA's offence is anemic. They were second worst in the NHL this past year.

Hmmm. What's this guys value?

Good points for sure. I would laugh at any GM trying to get M Richards off of me for that price. As JHM pointed out, league setup could mean everything. If it's for the league in your sig I would think it's an awfully foolish trade

You are right - this is a bad deal - Richards will have a great year in LA, while a 2nd prospect will not garner anything close to that in the short term.
Can your league owners vote to overturn it?
