Default Halak *REP*

What are everyones thoughts on Halak after Elliots collapse at the end of last year? Will they time share again or will Halak get the bulk of the starts?

I'm debating if he is worth targeting in my keeper. GS is one of our roto categories so he need to be playing 60 games to really be valuable.

Thought?

I gave my response here so you can add this to whatever else people contribute in this thread: http://forums.dobbersports.com/showt...ighlight=Halak

As for his high-ankle sprain I wouldn't be hitting the panic button.

i think the expectation has to be a similar split to last season.
elliot had a bad couple of games in the post season, but he was the better goalie during the year. and the team was at its best with these two pushing each other in a job share situation.

I think Elliot is the superior goaler to Halak... Elliot will get the starting roll but will be on a short leash unfortunately and the job will be his to loose. won't be a much margin for error. kind of unfortunate really because its hard for a keeper to gain much confidence in a system like that!

I feel like I may have started your questioning of Halak by me saying he isn't an upgrade over smith or howard..

I feel the same way still Halak is good and is on a very defensive minded team but I really don't think St. Louis is as good as they were last year in terms of wins. Playoff team no doubt but last year they over performed IMO. The most I can see is 2/3's time for one of the goalies which is about 55 games. One injury completely changes thing though. Halak is 1A in my mind but anything more than 55 would surprise me.

There is no way in hell that Elliott is either a superior goalie OR (and this one is even more outlandish) that Elliott gets the starting role. Halak gets paid more and is the starter. Elliott is a good backup and has proven before that he can flourish as a backup but crumbles under the pressure of being a starter. The ONLY reason he played in the playoffs was that Halak had gotten injured.

Edit: Oh, and anyone lowering any games started because Halak's playoff injury is stupid. Really. He is on track for a full recovery way before the season starts. There is nothing to worry about.

Never said Elliot is a better goalie. Said he WAS the better of the two last season. There's a difference...

I'm with sentium here I honestly think Halak will get a much larger share of the starts this season and Elliott will see max 25 starts (barring injury).

Personally, I don't think Elliott's "collapse " was enough to wipe the slate of last year's efforts completely clean. I think it's a split. If Halak plays to his ability, it could easily be him getting the bulk. However, if the ankle lingers and Elliott plays how he did most of the year, i'd be a little worried as a Halak owner. Elliott did sign a respectable contract, so he doesn't appear to be going anywhere any time soon.
