OK, first off its not for the team in my sig. Its a 20 team dynasty league run on Yahoo with their standard cats. No salary cap. My team is in a rebuild mode and still a couple years away from being a serious contender.

This deal works for me in a few ways as it helps me out roster wise. First off we can stash any player in the minors who has played less the 100 NHL games so all of the guys I receive can be stashed away in the minors. I am currently over my roster limit so moving Purcell and O'Brien help me out so i dont have to release any players off my NHL roster. Also, where I am a couple years away, all 3 guys could be serious players for my team.

I wouldn't do it. If you're rebuilding it doesn't make sense to move that top-10 pick in what seems to be a great draft class. Take out the pick and make the deal around Purcell and Ellis and it looks good for you but I wouldn't give up that pick that should atleast be as valuable as Ellis is. And you have to get better return for Purcell than Spooner and Kruger.

I don't think it's such a hot idea to do a deal just so you don't have to drop a player. Sometimes the best thing to do is drop a player and keep the good assets instead of settling for more stuff on your farm.

Yeah, I like the idea of selling high on Purcell after his insane second half but I don't think I like this deal a whole lot.

Thats not the main reason for doing the deal, the deal just helps me out on that front.

I was offered Ellis last night and after some going back and forth, this is kinda where the discussions ended up last night. I never pull the trigger on a deal without some thought on my part (unless its insanely obvious and I am afraid the other GM will change his mind).

I actually own 3 first round picks in the 2013 prospect draft. My own (which will more then likely end up being an early first, this pick he is looking for and another first rounder which will probably be in the 15-17 range of our 20 team league) so its not like I cant afford to spare the pick if it means I can upgrade my team.
