I'm going to say Jim Thome, because he's clean. Oh yeah, he also boasts 607 career home runs.
If A-Rod didn't test positive for PED's, he would have been my choice. Looking forward to hearing your opinions!

Being clean doest matter to me, I loved when guys were smacking home runs all the time.
Mark Mcgwire A-Rod Jose Canseco Though I do not like Sammy Sosa, Barry Bonds or Ken Griffy Jr For guys not known for hitting home runs. Roberto Alomar Vladimir Guerrero

Barry Bonds (with or without steroids). Griffey was my favorite player growing up, then Ichiro. But Bonds was unreal.

When I grew up as a child I actually made a scrap book of McGwire and Sosa's homerun competition...then when I was old enough to understand the concept of juicing I was really disappointed.
Never really had a favourite hitter...but I'm really impressed with Adrian Beltre and his ability to dig out tough pitches. Ken Griffey Jr. was up there though...really loved the way he played the game. As far as favourite Jays hitters go growing up I loved Carlos Delgado...and even though I was only 2 and 3 years old during their WS runs I loved Paul Molitor and Robbie Alomar. Frank Catalanotto and Shea Hillenbrand were a couple of my favourites as well. |

I don't think there was a more feared hitter than Bonds. Sure he probably took 'roids, but those are supposed to mess with your eye sight. No one saw the ball better than he did. He was a jerk and I don't like him as a person, but he could sure play.

Going to show my age a bit, but the two that have always stood out for me are George Brett and Rod Carew.

George Brett is the name I know out of that pair. You are really old.

Quote:
I just vividly remember watching and listening to baseball games as a kid. Baseball was a major part of my childhood and those are a couple of names that just stick out in my memories of the game back then. A great example of how old I am is the fact that I can actually say I remember when the Royals were one of the top teams in the AL and not the laughing stock they've become over the last 20 years or so.

I was only able to witness the latter stages of his career but Don Mattingly was incredible. It's a shame he just missed out on a World Series, but I do remember that series against Seattle where he rolled back time and almost got them through with clutch hitting. Unfortunately it wasn't to be.
