Default Chris Pronger

I still have this guy on my main league! This is valueable update for me to determine whether to keep him or bail out..

Chris Pronger, D PHI
News: Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren has strongly refuted rumors that Chris Pronger (concussion) is retiring and moving to St. Louis with his family, according to Sportsnet.ca.
Analysis: Although Chris Pronger is still experiencing headaches - certainly not a great sign - Holmgren says the player is hoping to recover and return to the ice next season. We'll know more once Pronger finally starts feeling up to par following a season where he was only able to play 13 games.

I'm a big Pronger fan but personally don't think he'll ever be back. If he retires the Flyers are screwed for an almost $5 million cap hit for the next 5 years because he was >35 when he signed the extension. Is much better for them to keep him on IR and free up the cap space so I wouldn't be surprised if we don't hear an official "retirement" announcement until 2017.

Minor update today per rotoworld (source csnphilly.com):

Philadelphia GM Paul Holmgren provided a minor update on the status of Chris Pronger and it doesn't appear as though much has changed in his recovery from post-concussion syndrome.
"I saw him this morning," Holmgren said. "He continues to have some good days and then some bad days. So I don't know if that's any update. He struggles." The Flyers general manager is still trying to be optimistic that Pronger will play next season, but he said that right now it's too early to predict that and the team will wait to see how Pronger progresses over the summer. There's no timetable for his return.

Hey, according to mcgoo, it's Pronger's choice whether or not he plays next year. Not at all in the doctors' hands or anything. Yep.

Pretty sure when a player retires his contract is off the books and does not count against the cap. Thats why they are going to review these long term contracts that are signed by older players in the new CBA talks.

No, if a player is 35 years or older when he signs a contract, that contract can't come off the books. It will count against the cap no matter what. The only workaround is if the player doesn't retire and is continually placed on LTIR year after year. Then the team is allowed to go over the cap for as much as the contract is worth, but the contract still counts. This LTIR workaround doesn't work during the offseason, so the Flyers are effectively handcuffed 5 million before the season starts.

hey Rob, I've been meaning to ask you if you are familiar with the band Austra from Toronto? Being from the music scene there, I thought maybe you've heard of them. I first heard of them a few months back and they are one of my fav bands atm.

comletely OT, I know. My apologies to the OP.
