terrific defenceman. the shot is a bonus. $4million + ...
i hope the blues get him. they need a left D-man to play with Pietrangelo.
hopefully new ownership has some $$$ to spend.

Why are we talking about Kulikov...? Completely different player.

You act like Garrison came out of nowhere this year... yes, his offense did. But he's a solid as a rock defender and has been for years. Even if you ignore his offense this year, he still commands a big pay raise.

My best comparable is a less-proven Dan Hamhuis who took a paycut of $4.5M to play with the Canucks. Easily could have fetched $5.5M+.

I see a similiar situation with Garrison. Could easily get $5M+ but may sign for $3.5M-$4M to play somewhere he wants.

Thankfully, we'll see.

BTW, I never said Garrison and Kulikov were the same type of player. Were you implying that Suter, Carle, Garrison and Paul Martin were similar players when you brought them up in the same post?

Also, I never implied he "came out of nowhere." I simply said he hasn't earned a $4 million+ per season contract yet. He's played 2.5 NHL seasons and 1.5 AHL seasons. For comparison, when Hanhuis signed with Vancouver in 2010, he had played 6 NHL seasons and 2 AHL seasons.

I said Garrison was the 3rd best available UFA after Suter and Carle. Made no direct comparison whatsoever.

And I don't see why Martin is a bad comparable - his last full season before he signed with the Pens was a 33 point campaign which was just shy of his career high. Like Garrison he was solid defensively and the offense was just a bonus.

I think it comes down to supply and demand. There are limited amounts of top pairing FA dmen coming out in the summer.

Suter
Carle
Wideman
Jeff Finger??

Sorry, couldnt help myself with Finger, but seriously, there are a limited amount of quality FA Dmen this summer so the demand for his services will be fairly high. Garrison was the 3rd highest goal scoring Dman this past season and can run a PP. Dude will have his phone ringing. I dont think 3.5m-4.5m is out of the question.

I think hes worth shopping, but I dont think I would trade him for Tom Gilbert. I have never been much of a Gilbert fan. Hes a bit too soft for my liking.

I know you made no direct comparison. That was my point. I made no direct comparison between Garrison and Kulikov either.

Martin had played over 400 games when he signed that contract. Garrison has yet to reach half that total.

Also, Martin was/is grossly overpaid.

Pretty common when it comes to UFA's.

I predict Suter, Wideman, Carle and Colaiacovo all sign for a bigger cap hit than Garrison.

As much as I love Gilbert in Minny (check out the "sleeper D 2012-2013" thread to see some good point/counterpoint arguments regarding Gilbert - Digitalmonkey makes a strong case against him, while I really like him as a bounce back candidate), I think you could get more for Garrison than Gilbert.

I know in my 18 team keeper league, Garrison would fetch much more than Gilbo. Who else could you target?

For what it is worth, I would try and ship him before he signs - at least now you can sell high and cash in on his inflated value. If he signs somewhere that kills his value, you are screwed. Conversely, I guess if he signs somewhere like Vancouver than his value may explode, so you take your chances either way, but I know his value is very high right now, and I can only see it falling. I see him easily getting 4 million x 4 years somewhere.

Suter, Widemouth for sure, Carle perhaps but no way in balls does Cola get more than Garrison.

I'd be willing to bet the house on that one!
