1) Out of spite... I never trade FOR a waiver pick that somebody grabbed.
2) You've got 12 categories... 6 pitching categories. Marshall is going to help you in just one significantly (SV). Marshall will help you in three in a very small way (WHIP, ERA, K). 3) Closers come & go. Keep your eye peeled. As soon as a fringe closer has two blown saves, invest in the set-up man and you'll have a new closer - at no cost. 4) Is C.Young a starter? How many categories does HE help you in? Consider that. NO, on the deal... IMO. There are better (cheaper) ways to replace a lost closer. |

I guess my only issue is that I only have one legit closer right now. I'm not really sure what Young's value really is. I do agree with your logic to an extent, but I want to say it is easier to replace an OF than a RP. Most RP's in the FA prolly won't give you any saves. Still I don't really know values right now since I haven't done fantasy baseball in a couple of years.

How many teams are in your league?
Who are the best 3-4 OFs available? If you are comfortable dealing away a hitter - fine. Last year was my first year back in fantasy baseball. I made 2 or 3 trades... and the worst one I made was trading away a hitter for a closer (Matt Capps, maybe?). Chris Young is a pretty decent player. He plays everyday 20 HR/20 SB guy. He'll get R/H/RBI too. C.Young only hurts in AVG... and he's taking more BB every year... a good sign that he is growing smarter as a hitter. (He's also striking out less... check his K each year) Your next OF rostered is A.Rios... a guy who doesn't BB much, in fact his BB seems to be trending DOWN... a sign that he is chasing pitches and that maybe pitchers have figured HIM out. (Rather than vice-versa) Based on your drop-off from C.Young to Rios... I'd advise against the trade. Plus, just look at the number of closer situations that have opened up JUST in the last three weeks. KC's closer is done, CIN's closer is done, WAS closer is injured, perhaps CLE closer may be in trouble... it happens a lot. I don't think trading FOR Saves is a good idea... but others know more than me. Maybe they'll give you some thoughts. |

Never jump the gun because you're short a closer. How many closers have we seen change hands already this spring? Really you're paying for one category with a closer. You're duo of Francisco and Bell should keep you competitive for now.
