Hey guys, my first step into serious fantasy baseball. Have four bench spots left to fill and looking for some tips on where to look.
League is 12-team, 22 man roster + 12 man farm. (start - C, 1b, 2b, ss, 3b, OF, OF, OF, Util; SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P, P). Weekly roster changes. 5x5: R, HR, RBI, SB, OBP; W, SV, K, ERA, WHIP Format is Contract years Cap (get 50 years of contracts to hand out to guys on the pro roster, guys on the farm have rights for varying number of years depending on particular factors). Teams get one re-sign every two years, otherwise expiring contracts fall back into redraft pool. Signing farm players doesn't count as a re-sign. My Draft so far: (The focus on relief pitching is intentional -- going for the strategy of getting a couple big strikeout guys as my SPs and making the most out of my strong relievers low whips and era). I've designated guys I plan to place on the farm. SP - Tim Lincecum 1B - Mark Teixeira OF - Jacoby Ellsbury 2B - Brandon Phillips OF - Jayson Werth 3B - Gordon Beckham OF - Shin-Soo Choo SS - Elvis Andrus (farm) SP - Ricky Nolasco 1B - Carlos Pena SP - Brett Anderson (farm) C - Buster Posey (farm) RP - Trevor Hoffman RP - Luke Gregerson 1B/OF - Kyle Blanks (farm) RP - Frank Francisco RP - Sergio Romo SS - Erik Aybar SP - Francisco Liriano SP/RP - Phil Hughes (farm) RP - Daniel Bard (farm) SS - Everth Cabrera (farm) C - Chris Iannetta OF - Cameron Maybin (farm) 3B - Mat Gamel (farm) RP - Matt Thornton SP - Homer Bailey (farm) OF - Brett Gardner (farm) SP - Shelby Miller (farm) SS - J.J. Hardy 1B - Nick Johnson I am placing a lot of talent on the farm, but, I really like my window next year. I'm guaranteed to lose farm eligibility on a lot of these guys (500 AB; 200 IP), but, I think I can really load up for next season with Andrus, Posey, Anderson, Bard, Maybin all likely to improve this year. Guys like Hughes and Bailey are just barely eligible and I would hope for big years to use them as trade bait. Guy like Gardner is there for a DL call up role (we can call up farmers for injured MLB guys) to grab some steals. Anyway, I think I have a lot of speed, should really dominate in WHIP and ERA with all the big time non-closer relievers. Ks should be pretty solid, wins maybe more middle of the road with only three starters. I grabbed Hardy as a power option to split with Aybar at short. Johnson as an OBP option to split with Pena. What is my lineup missing? I am out of farm slots so I just have to add some more bench spots. If the team is actually good enough to compete for the championship I guess I'd consider guys like Andrus and Anderson being signed this year, what do you guys think? Appreciate any thoughts, like I said, my first stab at a real competitive league. Posting sig since its easier to see the overview: Keeper Weekly start 1 @ each, 3 OF, Util; 2 SP, 2 RP, 4 P Roto R,SB,HR,RBI,OBP W,K,Sv,ERA,WHIP C - Iannetta, Posey* 1B - Teixeira, Pena, Ni. I don't entirely trust Iannetta and think Olivo has a chance to steal some playing tiem away from him. Other then that, you have a nice blend of power and speed and could use another big bat.
