Am I missing something here? Ron Washington tested positive for using cocaine. Ok players are getting drilled left and right over the steriods issues, but a coach of a team ( Texas Rangers) used Cocaine and It seems to me anyway that it gets washed under the carpet?
If im a team owner and my coach of my team was caught using cocaine, no way in hell would he be asked to come back to work... I can sorta understand players using steriods in hopes to become better and keep pace with the other players, even tho I dont agree with it, but for a coach to use cocaine, isnt to get better , he shoulda been fired on the spot. |

Isn't sweeping things under the carpet the way the MLB works? haha... the steroid issue was swept under the carpet for more than a decade before anything was done about it.
From what I gather, Washington went right to the Rangers' front office and Selig's office as soon as he was tested and admitted he used cocaine and was going to test positive. I've also read that he volunteered to resign at the time. I think because he handled it the right way (honest and upfront) with his bosses he was given a second chance. MLB and its fans are one of the more forgiving leagues/fanbases and seem to be more than willing to give players a second chance. All those active players who tested positive for steroids and admitted it are back playing and are pretty much face no criticism. I think if Washington had kept his cocaine use a secret he would have recieved a pink slip yesterday. p.s. what are the odds that the only 2 publicly known former (maybe current) coke users in the MLB belong to the same organization haha. I'm sure there are a few dozeen other users in the MLB but I found that kinda funny. |

The difference is that the steroid issue helped players effect the outcome of the game. The only outcome of Washington testing for cocaine is the shakes, munchies and probably violent rages.
Not only that it's a non issue because he let it all out. The reason the players were put under a microscope is because most of them are saying they're not guilty. |

I wouldn't be surprised if 75% of MLB players and coaches do some kind of illegal drugs in addition to steroids or whatever. It's only newsworthy when a coach gets caught because it doesn't happen all that often. People hardly notice anymore if players actually get caught because it happens all too frequently. I think people expect athletes to do drugs because of the difficulty to be the best in their sports. Ron Washington appears to be a pretty solid role model and coach, but this is definitely something to frown up for him personally.
