Default Points Only- Giroux vs Ovechkin- Next 3 years

I know this is a pro-Giroux board, and I think he is great also (but he is not Ovechkin). Just wanted to see how this would work out and maybe even check back every year.

You're right in that this board is very pro Giroux, but I was one who was on the OV side when he faced Sid so Im not an anti OV guy.

That being said, with the way thing are going and the fact that it's points only and not goal heavy....I have to side with Giroux. His breakthrough over the past few years has been remarkable....from 47 pts to 76 to 93. WOW. Philly's lineup is just going to get better as well, even if Jagr doesn't last over those three years.

Ovechkin, while they've avoided a blow up by beating Boston in round 1, their system just hasn't tailored to fantasy hockey for the past 3 seasons. Hunter may not be back, but if McPhee is still running the show then you can guarantee they'll stick with the D first system.

I think given that it's points only, giroux will get most people's votes.

Ovechkin's in a bad spot right now - playing under hunter the caps have made it to the 2nd round. Hunter and ovi don't mesh at all. He's playing around 15 mins a game and his production has dropped significantly since the caps changed their system.

About 2 weeks ago (when I thought Boston would kill Washington) I would have said ovi hands down. But after this win it's looking like hunter may stick and that makes it hard not to pick giroux.

Plus with no SOG, Ovie takes a big hit as well.

Even if I thought he would only hit 80-90 points this season his SOG made him a #1 pick for me.

This.

I think extremely highly of Ovechkin, but in a 3-year window, I'd roll with the scoring system: Giroux on the Flyers.

Ovechkin has been on a slide in the wrong direction the past 2 years. The deeper Washington goes in the playoffs, the stronger a hold Hunter has on the head coaching job. Hunter loves his grinders. When guys like Jay Beagle are getting more icetime then Ovechkin and Backstrom on a nightly basis, this cant bode well for OV returning to his past glory.

Giroux is the leader (and future captain) in Philly. Laviolette wants all plays to go through Giroux when hes on the ice. That pretty much tells ya all you need to know in comparing the two.

Giroux

If Ovi wants more ice time, and I'd be thinking he cares more about ice time than goals, he's going to learn to play the way Hunter wants. Theres no reason why he can't do Beagles' job better than him.
One day Ovechkin will crack 100 again, but I cant see it being next season. Will he do it in the 3 year window? Tough call, maybe - I'd side towards yes because of how much damn talent he has.

On a 3 year window, Im still taking Giroux. He's made me a believer this first round.
