I recently finished ME2 and loved it. ME3 is on my list "to get" but I have a few on queue so I will wait a bit. Takes a lot of time to play ME2, I expect 3 will be the same or even more....! I usually end up checking the online walkthroughs to make sure I get everything...so much going on in these games!

I love the way you can import your character from the previous game, nice touch.

I am currently playing Borderlands - one of the better games I have ever played - got the entire collection of DLC, going through those now - although The Underdome is a bit too challenging for me lol. Before that I played Rage - another excellent game.

I have Uncharted 1 & 2 up next.

Can someone tell me what the overall series story plot is about? I haven't played any of the games but I keep hearing about it, especially the endings of ME3. I'm just curious why everyone is talking about this game. Thanks.

To put it simply....it's a space RPG. An extinct race is trying to destroy the galaxy and you're at the center of the plot as a Commander. It's a bit different from other RPGs because it is also a first person shooter, but still holds the element of heavy dialogue.

I highly recommend it.

Essentially there is a race of machines that destroy all advanced civilizations in our galaxy every 50,000 years, allowing "young" civilizations to live. The idea is that advanced civs would eventually destroy all life, if left to their own devices, so in their mind they're preserving life. This time around Earth is due to be wiped out, along with every other alien race in the galaxy. Your character is a human commander, trying to stop the machines, and rounding up as much help from across the galaxy as you can. There's a shady tech firm that seeks to control these machines and harness their power for the betterment of human civilization.

Those are the broad strokes. It's filled with piles of great sub-stories, politics, etc. Excellent story, excellent game.

Alright well I had already heard the controversy about the ending (not that I know what happens) and that hasn't made me not want to play. Beating Assassin's Creed and then onto Mass Effect.

Probably going to end up as a series in the pile of shame to play though. I love me some good RPG, but moreso the good old JRPG then the WRPG's. And not a big fan of shooters either. Probably gonna try it eventually. got other priorities 1st (Golden Sun 2, I still have to open Xenoblade Chronicles sitting in my room, etc etc etc...)

Honestly, even with the 'ending', it's one of the best games I've ever played, and a wonderful cap to the series.

Glad you're seeing past the controversy. I did too, and while I wasn't pleased with the last few minutes, the rest was amazing.

Well, there have been plenty of games with bad endings, but yeah, that's a pretty good comparison. The gameplay, graphics, sound and general presentation of Mass Effect 3 is above pretty much everything this console generation. Uncharted 2 is the only thing in my mind that comes close.

The thing is, if the theories out there are right this ending could turn out to be incredibly cool; it would just be extremely lame that the true conclusion/explanation might have to come via DLC. That said, the final couple minutes aside, I thought the entire end sequence (spanning the final couple hours) was amazing and epic. When I was done I felt a big release of tension, a sadness that it was over, and a desire to get right back into that world and keep playing. I'm actually replaying the last quarter of the game to ensure that I garner the "perfect" ending. I fully expect this to be my favorite game of 2012.
