Default Toffoli vs. Boedkker

Who should I keep?

Toffoli or Boedkker.
Have to decide between these two in a standard dynasty league.

Advice is appreciated.

Its a tough one. You are asking about a higly touted prospect who is playing in the OHL right now, against a once highly touted prospect who is playing in the NHL today.

Boedker didnt have the season most wanted to see, but he is still in the NHL and to me, that means a lot. He was highly regarded coming into the NHL and may turn into that prospect everyone expected him to be.

Toffoli may face a challenge getting into the LA roster. they are pretty deep up front. it depends on how long you want to wait for him. He could be 2 yrs away from lacing them up in LA. I can see him playing in the AHL next season for seasoning. He could fall flat on his face coming in like Boedker did.

To me, at least Boedker is playing in the NHL today, gaining valuable experience that will only help him going forward.

Tried to find a thread dedicated to Toffoli alone, but this will do as I was just looking at Boedker's numbers...

Toffoli is at 2G-2A in 4 GP in his first AHL action.

Boedker is at 7G-3A in 9GP with Lukko Rauma of SM-Liiga.

Really like the goal production from Boedker, even if it's in a lesser league.

Interesting find. I think there's still hope for Boedker. I thought that before this hot start, but there's nothing wrong with being on a tear to start things off!

Not quite exactly the same situation, but this is a bit like asking you to cut your loss of 2 years or so of a prospect and take on another prospect for which you may just have to wait 2 years again, for similar or same results (or not but such is the gamble of hockey pools, no?). I like the comments about picking a player in the NHL now vs a player who hasn't played there yet. Both are quite different players. Depth can be an issue, as Boedker looks to have way more of an opportunity with the lack of punch wingers in PHX and the departure of Ray "Lance Armstrong" Whitney to Dallas has to help this argument. On the other side of the coin, depth is never really an issue if a player is good enough. Teams do not hesitate to shuffle around players to make room for the best. So if Toffoli is good enough, there could be 800 centres in LA and they would find a way to move them around to make room for him. If you like his talent that much, keep him. Having owned and waited for Boedker these last few years, I worry that his star potential may have taken a hit or two based on the way he was treated and rushed. With Toffoli, that fear doesn't exist yet. Also having watched Toffoli live I can attest to the fact that he is quite exciting to watch. Boedker has tools in his own right, but he doesn't have Toffoli's hands or ice presence. I would be tempted to gamble on Toffoli, at this stage. Unless the league format would really heavily favour a winger like Boedker..

I think he's a prime example of a player that could benefit greatly from the lockout as he continues to build his confidence after a decent showing in last year's postie.

I'd take Boedkker here. He'll be 23 soon and already an established NHLer at this point. Hes played almost 250 NHL games between regular season and playoffs. Hes also been playing under Dave Tippett who is good at maximizing what he gets out of his players. Hes a good bet to be one of Phoenix's offensive weapons for years to come(they don't have to many of those you know) and I think Tippet and company have been developing him well. Things started clicking during the playoffs.

Toffoli, who I also like and definitely has potential, will likely take a similar path as Boedker did in the NHL...and I'm not as sold on his long-term potential. Boeddker here for sure.

I am going to preface this statement by saying that I really haven't seen much of Toffoli, but I would take Boedker here. Seems like this could be the year when things "come together" for him. I realize that he's already been on the league awhile without 'sexy' results, but he is still a very young player whose playoffs last year were more than solid.

It's also very encouraging to hear that he's been lighting the lamp overseas, but let's hold off on planning the parade just yet. All in all, I think there are some promising factors in Boedker's favor going forward, but don't expect the world from him.

Cheers

I would definitely go with Boedker, people forget he's only 22 years old.

He's really starting to round into form and that strong finish to 2011-2012 is no fluke IMO.

I loved what I saw from Boedker at the end of last year. He showed a lot of confidence and was playing in a lot of situations. If he keeps playing with Doan it'll help them both. For me it's Boedker in a walk.
