Default Pacioretty...upside?

Hey all,

As the season comes to a close, it is easy to find at least one positive thing about the Habs poor season ... Max Pacioretty.

After tonights game...

77 gp ..32 G .. 31 A ..+ 1.. 279 SOG .. 103 hits .. 56 PIM .. 13 PPP

Pretty impressive break out season.

Im merely trying to assess my team needs heading into the offseason. League in Sig.

How much more does he have in him? Does he become a 70-75 pt player next season? Him and Desharnais seem to have developed pretty good chemistry.

Recipe to becoming a 70-75 pt player

1. Play top line minutes. Check!
2. Have lots of SOGs and PP time. Check!
3. Develop chemistry w/ good linemates. Check!

Mark it. MaxPac. 70 pts in 2012-13! One and done!

Expiry date: Dont get f'n injured.

I think he should be good to post 30/30 again. If the 2nd line gets going it'll help elevate the top line too so keep an eye out for that.

Interesting observation.

You dont see him progressing towards 35/35 or 30/40 type numbers? There aren't many wingers to challenge this guy for ice time on that roster...unless they sign someone in the offseason? Semin?

Maybe in the future, but there's going to be a lot of transition in that lineup and it might take some time to achieve a better total.

While I don't know that he will ever be a 40/40 guy, 30-35 goals and around 70 points is obviously reasonable. The x-factor will be roster turnover in Montreal. If they add depth at the center position, it should help him. If they add depth at wing, it could hurt him.

Thanks guys. Just looking for a little reassurance.

What about his PIM/hit production? Should these continue to climb as he grows into his powerforward game? His combined point/peripheral production is what makes him so valuable in my league right now.

He will eventually hit 70-75 but next year 65-70. He could be a PPG player but in a perfect situation (James Neal).

I'm going to go against everyone and say that he's pretty much hit his stride.

I think he's benefitting from getting top line minutes because there's no one else to give the minutes to (think Richard Zednik in Montreal: 30 goals when given top minutes).

Also, he's benefitting greatly from his linemates. But a new coach may split them up to try and get the other lines working (think Alfie when he was with Spezza and Heatley).

Everything had to go right for him this year to hit his current totals (lots of teammates injured, lots underachieving, finding the perfect line with Cole and DD, etc.).

I think 30 goals, 35 assists is right where he should be. He may hit 70 in a great year, but I wouldn't expect more than 65 out of him.
