Default 2011-12 Fearless Forecasts

http://www.dobberhockey.com/index.ph...gus&Itemid=102

Quote:
10. Pietrangelo and Shattenkirk combine for over 100 points
Why? Two young stud defensemen playing with a group of terrific young forwards. This team is on the cusp.
happy with this one - going to be very close

Quote:
9. Jaromir Jagr leads the Flyers in goal scoring
Why? The mullet is back, baby. Jagr is slower than Dave Andreychuk at this point in his career, but he'll see lots of time on the power play with Claude Giroux. I could score 15-20 goals playing with Giroux (not really, but it helps for my comparison).
nope. he's played a big part in their success though.

Quote:
8. Dion Phaneuf leads NHL defensemen in goal scoring
Why? I saw something in him after the Kaberle trade that reminded me of the trigger happy smashmouth defenseman from Calgary.
he had a great first three weeks. does that count?

Quote:
7. Carey Price wins the Hart and Vezina trophies
Why? He's a stud, and the Habs are going to do everything they can to compliment his game.
except field a good team apparently

Quote:
6. Corey Perry scores less than 40 goals
Why? Career year won't be repeated, don't see Visnovsky having another elite season. Hiller is a question mark until he suits up for a game, too. Lots of pressure on Perry to carry the team once again.
this will be close

Quote:
5. Parise and Weber are both traded at some point before the 2012 trade deadline
Why? The Devils need to start building for the future, and Parise's looming free agency is a scary proposition. The Predators have one more year with Weber (he's restricted next summer), but Suter/Rinne need new contracts in 2012. Am I advocating a trade involving these two players? It sure would make sense, wouldn't it?
0 for 2

Quote:
4. St. Louis wins the Central Division
Why? Great team. Chicago made some interesting moves but it isn't a sure thing they'll be better. Columbus got better up front but they still have a below average goaltender. Detroit finds ways to win, but their core is aging. Nashville always hangs around there, but lots of question marks regarding their three best players.

Quote:
3. Keith Ballard finishes with more points than Christian Ehrhoff
Why? This one is a bit of a reach - Ballard was awful for most of last season. However, if he sticks with the Sedins at even strength and on the power play, he'll see a lot of second assists. Ehrhoff sees a downgrade in talent in Buffalo regardless of who he lines up with.
bieksa and hamhuis picked up the scoring slack. huge miss.

Quote:
2. Matt Gilroy scores 20 goals for the Lightning.
Why? Tampa Bay desperately needs an offensive puck-rushing defenseman. Bergeron can't play defense at all, and he's a liablity at the best of times. Gilroy could surprise.
a miss of epic proportions

Quote:
1. Claude Giroux wins the Art Ross Trophy
Why? He'll see a huge increase in both even strength ice time, quality of linemates, and power play ice time. He's one of the most naturally gifted forwards in the game. And he's a personal favorite of mine.
I'd say this is looking good - he will be in the mix

Overall - I like my percentage here. Some huge misses, but some good calls. Wanted to have fun with this and enjoyed reading all of yours, too.

Great predictions! I'm really impressed with the Blues prediction, spot on! You have to be gutsy with these and you were.

These are fantastic. Every one of them fearless, and you had a great success rate. Even your misses don't look bad. Well...maybe the Ballard one.

here is the dobberite's forecasts:

http://www.dobberhockey.com/forums/s...less+forecasts

Quote:
1. Alex Goligoski records less than 50 points
Nailed it...he's going to finish with like 30 points. I still can't believe all the hype he was getting last year, people were treating him like he was the next mike gre...err erik karlsson

Quote:
2. Sedin twins each record less than 95 points
theyve pretty much been PPG players this season. i dont think they will ever break 100 again, and 90 is pushing it.

Quote:
3. Thornton breaks 90 points
awful...i should have known there was too much talent in SJ for a single player to even break 90

Quote:
4. Bruins do not win the Northeast Division
really thought buffalo was going to take it but they were awful for most of the year

Quote:
5. Richards breaks 70 assists
i think i was talking about brad but it doesnt really matter...i thought he would like up with gaborik and tear the league apart.

Quote:
6. Karlsson and Rundblad combine for 90 points
i was expecting 40-45 from both of them this season. still pretty close, i'd need karlsson to get like 10 points before the season ends.

Quote:
7. Yandle leads Phoenix in points
whitney has been gold, didnt see that happening.

Quote:
8. Neal breaks 40 goals; Staal breaks 70 points (looks kind of foolish now that Crosby might not start the season)
neal could break 40 goals still...but staal prediction was awful. highly doubt he'll reahc 70 in a pens sweater..

Quote:
9. McDonald breaks 70 points
was expecting a healthy season from him..the guy cant catch a break.

Quote:
10. Kessel scores 40 goals
very close, he should be able to get it.

Quote:
11. P.Kane scores less than 82 points
the kid didnt even make it to PPG. still can't believe i was laughed at when i said last year i would take spezza over kane anyday.

Quote:
12. Skinner outpoints E.Staal
damn you concussions!

The Jagr and Giroux forecasts are at odds with each other. It was impossible for both of them to turn out right. However, its a pretty good hit rate on a bunch of calls that were pretty out there at the beginning of the season.

How was that awful? Staal has 44 points in 55 games this year. That's 0.8 PPG which is 65 points over a full season. Pretty close prediction.

Art Ross = points (Giroux)

goal scoring lead = goals (Jagr)

But yes, overall... Angus - these were some great fearless predictions.
I hope you put some money on STL & NYR when you were in Vegas for your draft.

Bet on LA/NYR (both were great odds) to win the Cup and Malkin to win the Art Ross.
