Default 2013 NHL Draft Class

We are allowed to draft unsigned NHL guys during our Minor league draft. Besides for Mackinnon, who else would be considered top five for the 2013 entry level draft?

Are you allowed to draft 2014 guys?

If so, I'd target:

J. Ho-Sang
S. Reinhart
J. Virtanen

Those are the big 3 right now for 2014.

Another player to watch for is Valery Nichushkin, obviously the Russian factor is there but this guy has some serious talent.

yeap, I completely agree.

outside of my top 5, he is in the next group of players I'd target at this stage. Still, a huge gamble to grab a Russian that far out. Heck, a huge gamble to grab ANY player that far out.

There are lots of very interesting players in the 2013 draft. Mostly forwards, especially from the WHL. Players like Curtis Lazar, Anthony Duclair, Hudson Fasching, Morgan Klimchuk, Alex Forsberg, and Connor Rankin all have a shot to go top 10-15 in 2013. Still, I wouldn't use a high pick on any of those at this stage. They could certainly move up the ranking, but I think right now the top 5 are the ones I listed.

Second this list. Shinkaruk's a '94 but he's tearing it up. MacKinnon will probably be 1st overall IMO.

Shinkaruk, for a '94, is making the WHL his playground. What he is doing is more impressive to me than what players like Stone, Etem, and St. Croix are doing, which you should expect from players who've been in the WHL for 3 or 4 years now. If Shinkaruk can do this in his second year, just imagine how good he will be in years 3 and 4.

I agree that Mackinnon almost certainly will be first overall, but I know the media will make a big deal of a "possible" battle for first overall between him and Jones. Jones is a beast and frankly the best defensive prospect to come along in years.

I really like Larsson for his all-around game and Karlsson for his offensive game, but Jones might be even better than they are in all facets of the game, not to mention the elite "Chara-like" size he will have by the time he fills out.

Whichever team selects 2nd overall will have a terrific consolation prize.

In terms of D, other than Seth Jones, you have Ryan Pulock of Brandon Wheatkings. 58 points in 66 games. Better numbers than Murray or Dumba this season (although Pulock is almost old enough to be eligible for 2012). His teammate Eric Roy is looking good too, also 2013 eligible.
