Default Andrei Markov cleared for contact

Andrei Markov has been cleared for contact and should return to the Montreal line up before the end of the season.

Good news for the stretch run for some of us.

Yeah, right!?!?!?! This is like clearing a vase to be dropped on the ground. And why, WHY, would he come back to play for a last place team going nowhere? This franchise has made some of the most dumbfounding moves this season.

Well if he injures himself again, at least he will have all summer to recover.

Don't underestimate the value of having the confidence that he can play again.

Markov playing even 10 games this season greatly takes the heat off of him and the team heading into next year. Whereas if he doesn't play at all, the saga continues.

This ought to be interesting. As a Habs fan, I'm excited to see the General back on the ice. As a Subban owner heading into the playoffs in 2 weeks, I hope they can work some magic on the PP.

I would never wish an injury to any player but Markov has had such horrible luck why push the envelope when the Habs aren't even in a playoff race. Increase your strength, endurance, speed, balance, agility, quickness etc... and get ready for next season Andre.

Or he does play, re-injures himself and the saga continues. Any cost benefit analysis of Markov playing would include the confidence he could gain but there is no way that outweighs the costs of him hurting himself before everything is totally completely 100%. He can gain confidence in practice, I wouldn't even let him sniff the lockerroom on game day.

Perhaps he'll do what Zach Parise did at the end of last season... Just play a game or two to find that "confidence" again. And once the old injury tightens up a little, sit out to mend for next season since there's no reason to overdo it.

I agree that he shouldn't play unless he's 100%, there's no saving this season. But the guy hasn't played since November 13 2010. Do you think that waiting an extra 7 months on top of 16 will make that much of a difference? You hear it all the time, practice isn't like a game. And you never know if you can play until you're out there in a game situation. So let him come back if he feels 100%, give him some sheltered minutes. If he gets injured again, so be it - at least the GM (whoever it is at the time) will know they need a replacement by FA day.

Markov not at this morning's practice. As you were.
