Hey gang. I'm looking for someone with a high rep that exchange emails with about this trade. All my stats are in the sig but I only got two hits in the forum. The trade is this fleury for nik backstrom (g), edler and mike green. Everyone says keep fleury and that's the safe thing but there a ton of variables I can't cover in one post, I'm also greedy for back to back titles.
Love the site, Dooj

I'm shocked you haven't done the deal yet. It looks like a no brainer to me. I noticed a few people cautioned about the Fleury-Lou combo for years. Who cares, especially with the bounty you are getting now.
Previous post people skipped over Edler like he wasn't part of the deal. Getting Green and Edler in a deal to move from Fleury to Backstrom is a no brainer. Backstrom will put up less wins for now, but has better peripherals. Plus he is a UFA after next season, if anything Wild will likely shop him next year (and if they don't Minny has a flood of prospects coming to help solidify team). The point? Basically, that Backstrom's situation won't get worse than it is now in all likelihood (esp with Harding probably leaving too). Fleury is obviously better, but the peripheral stats of Backstrom make him not that much worse (2.30 GAA, .926 SP). Plus with Louongo, Brodeur (playing out of his mind again), and some prospect goalies you don't have much of a worry. If you are continually looking at locking down a combo for the next decade you are doing yourself a disservice. Play to win now. This deal gives you that. You take a marginally worse goalie (Fleury's only really advantage is he starts a million games a season) in exchange for one of best young offensive dmen (on a juggernaut team) and the former best offensive dman (who still shows amazing offensive instinct when he plays). Not sure why you even posted this, unless you have a MAF poster hanging above your bed this is an easy accept.
