I've always migrated to using the DobberHockey Forum in it's basic format (no ads, no images, etc.) because it loads much faster and I can navigate the information quicker.

I've noticed these new ads popping up on the basic forums, what's up with this? I understand the need for advertisements but I hope we don't see more and more ads popping up on this basic forum in the near future.

Personally, I am already disliking this one giant ad at the top - especially when I am on my smartphone.

Basically from what I gathered people wouldn't stop complaining about the Twitter ticker on the main page when you use the forums through the main site. So Dobber just changed it to the basic format and added ads to the basic format.

And as such DY guys like you and me who use the basic format on our phones to avoid getting raped by our data plans get boned.

i hate the basic format...wish i could go back to the old view. just goes to show that no one will ever be happy.

wouldnt the best scenario just be making sure all the twitter guys tweet only about hockey related stuff?

Its more like this:

More and more crap started appearing around the forums (twitter bar, ads, etc), so more and more users migrated to using the forum direct link. Once Dobber et. al. noticed the ad revenue was dropping, the ads were added to the forum directly to negate that effect.

Yeah, he said it was suppose to be fast, but with twice as many ads loading now, it certainly doesn't seem any faster to me, quite possibly slower.

I don't know, but to me, this seems like a little overkill.

Weird... I haven't seen any ads on the basic forum.

Anyway, it's not like any of us are paying customers, so I don't think we have much right to bitch about this. This is a business at the end of the day and costs need to be covered. Let's cut Dobber some slack here.

Sure, in an ideal world that would be perfect. I try to restrict my tweets to strictly hockey but I cognitively do it knowing that ppl on the boards have bitched about it. There are times I post non-hockey related tweets but I'd say 95% are in the hockey theme. In the end, even if all the ticker contributors were tweeting strictly hockey information there would still be people unhappy at the topics (aka endless goaltending tweets from Justin or OHL/Sting tweets from myself, for example). Many of the contributors are trying to satisfy several different people (DH members, OHL followers, goaltending fanatics, etc.)

We all love bitching about stuff......like me and this forum ad haha

I work so Dobber so I have nothing against him. Just generating discussion to make it easier for all the viewers. I hadn't noticed the inclusion of ads until recently and wasn't really sure when it happened.
