Young kid at the power forward position.
As long as the Isle don't treat him like Bertuzzi (trading him before he can blossom), he will produce for them. PF's take time. |

I'm just worrying that playing the majority of his shifts with Jay Pandolfo and Tim Wallace 7min.-11min. ice time per game will not help his development.
I don't know enough about how the NYI develop young players to know if they could perhaps hurt his development. Sure young power forwards take time but on a team lacking offensive players wouldn't they loosen the reins a bit. Just asking as I'm thinking about acquiring him. I can wait on him as long as he shows signs of improving.

I'd actually love to acquire him, I think he'll be at least a 20 goal guy but his salary and lack of production this year plus next puts me off. I can just sign an FA with that cap room even though he's an easy buy low candidate.

this kid needs playing time. Isles were idiots to keep him around this year, straight up.

Couldn't agree more. Whether you say going back to junior was "pointless" because he had nothing left to prove their, at the very least he's playing a lot of hockey and in a winning environment. I can't see getting very limited minutes, losing and not being productive a positive for anyones development.

I still have a lot of faith left in this kid. He is a big protypical power forward and he is prob gonna take a couple more years than originally thought. If they would just play him on either the first or second line his stats would increase. How can anybody put up points playing with Martin and Pandalfo. I just recenetly bought kinda low on this kid and Im really excited to see him turn it around.

The kid is still just 19 years old, give him some time to develop.

From what I've seen, he's not going to create any offense on the 3rd or 4th lines.
He'll be an excellent player with talented linemates - the bigger question is: Where will the Islanders have a spot for him? 5 of their top 6 forwards are signed through next year: JT, Moulson, Okposo, Nielsen, Grabner. The only guy unsigned is PAP - who has been stellar this year... and if there is one thing the Islanders do NOT have enough of... it is playmakers. I would expect them to focus on re-signing PAP... and if they do - where do they put Nino next year? It will be interesting. Realistically, I think the Isles are going to have to choose between one of two players: Grabner vs. Nino? I think they'd be wise to keep Nino... but there is probably a better trade market for Nino. I'd bet there aren't too many GMs that view Grabner highly. |
