Leffe Blonde tonight. Very earthy and clove again. Are all Belgian's like this? Similar to Hoegaarden.....

I dont get into all that fancy beer crap. Czechvar, Asahi, or a warm Heineken paired with a doob pour moi.

Interestingly I know a number of Bud drinkers that would say the same about Czechvar, Asahi, or a warm Heineken.

No, it really just depends on the style of beer. From my limited experience with Belgian beers, I've found those qualities more in Witbiers than any other style of Belgian beers. The use of spices that impart those flavors does seem to be a trademark of the Belgian style.

But it's like a chef, some have the knack for using ingredients like Coriander, Orange Peel, or what have you, in their brews but they find the right balance for a great flavor. Others.....well....here's the BA review for that Leffe Blonde....

http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/470/2137/?ba=bros

As you can see there's a difference of opinion between the rank and file members and the Alstrom Bros as it regards Leffe Blonde.

If you want to experience good Belgian style brews let me suggest trying some Dubbel's, Tripel's, Quad's, or Saison/Farmhouse Ale's. I do like those much more than the wheat beers like Witbier. Personal preference really, but who knows you may become a Tripel lover like me.

Here's BA's top 50 Belgian Tripel style beers. Pay careful attention to the beer at number one....

Thanks, brother, appreciate the input. Again I like the Hoegaarden and the Leffe, but they're beers I would pair with food (grilled trout - lemon sage thyme) rather than have on its own.

My wife, however, LOVES them both. So it's really just a matter of taste..literally.

Settling in for the evening with a glass of Trois Pistoles. A spicy, sweet brew with a faint earthy hop flavor just under the surface. Kinda dry with a well hidden alcohol content. Reminds me a bit of Delirium Nocturnum now that I think about it. Not quite as smooth as Nocturnum, but the smoothness is only slightly less. If you've tried Delirium Nocturnum and loved it and pretty damn sure you'll love this one too.

I thought I'd share a link to the Unibroue site where they explain a bit about the story behind the name....

Just tried New Belgiums Dig, which is there regular Pale Ale. It's pretty hoppy, but good. It's similar to Fat Tire in that it reminds me of it, but it's still a pale ale. I was impressed with it and my buddy liked it pretty well.
