Hey guys,
I need another starter, and a guy in my league is carrying Smith and Elliott. I had smith before, but traded him to this guy in a package that involved Markstrom, but now I need starts each week (and wins for that matter) and would love some advice as to: a) Which of Elliott or Smith I should take if I want good SV%, W, GAA (and SO) b) what I should offer him. He wants a second round pick in a couple years and another player and I was thinking someone like Stafford but I'm not sure. Thoughts? A christmas rep would head your way.

As it stands according to yahoo Elliott is the #1 ranked player in the league. He's at the highest sell value he's ever had. Not the best time to buy him however the Blues plan on playing Halak in both games this weekend so that might scare the current owner. If Halak really step up, this goaltending split will sway to the golden boy Halak. If he falters then this split contiues. Too much if's?!!!
Smith is the #1 in Phoenix and will remain that way. Other then the stinker game vs Anaheim this week, he's been very solid. I'd maybe go for the sure #1 in Smith. Do you feel more confident in one goalie and team over their other? Go with you gut

I think Smith is the better guy to acquire right now for multiple reasons:
1) Currently struggling (Last four games his SV% is in the .800s and his GAA is like higher than 4) 2) More guaranteed to not have to deal with a time share 3) If you try to acquire Brian Elliott now you likely have to pay a large amount to get him, and I'm not sure he's worth the price. If you can get that deal done for Stafford and a second round pick its a no-brainer for me. |

My gut is to go with Smith because I'm an avalanche fan and I saw just how awful Elliott was last year. And he's playing out of his mind right now and has Halak paired with him so can lost a lot of starting gigs.
I shall do the Smith for Stafford and second round pick deal. thanks everyone!

Elliott would be my choice. His resurgence seems to be due to him rededicating himself. In the past, he would have folded by now. I do think that Smith would be the easier of the two to acquire, though. Good luck to you.

Hard to argue with what Elliott has done so far, best goalie stats in the NHL and is 13-2. He would be a starter on many other teams, but is in STL with the golden boy Halak. Smith therefore is a safer choice since most likely he is the #1 for the remainder of the season and, for the most part, has played well.
