Default [10 Fantasy Thoughts] November 30th

Its been a week since I have let my thoughts pour onto DobberHockey. Here are ten fantasy thoughts and my hopes is to make you say 'huh, I didn't know that'. Enjoy and comment!

1. Last season David Perron played the majority of his shifts with T.J. Oshie and David Backes. Everyone is really excited about this kid because he managed to put Lewiston on his back in 2006-07 and has averaged around 50 points in his two last 'healthy seasons.' Last season, he played ten games and managed to score five goals and obtain a plus-seven rating. Oh, did I mention, he has a chance of coming back this weekend and he's five percent owned on Yahoo!

2. As I mentioned in my article on the top 10 players to own that are under 10% owned, Daymond Langkow should be on your watch list. He has twelve points in fifteen games and is playing a regular shift next to Shane Doan and the Great Dane Mikael Boedker. This guy once had 77 points next to Iginla. More people have Andrew Brunette on their team than Daymond. 2% owned on Yahoo.

3. Here is a list of the biggest point changes in a player from November to October - Henrique (12 more pts in Nov than Oct), Toews (11), M. Koivu (9), Marchand (9), Franzen (8), Roy (8), Ryder (8), Foligno (8), Zubrus (8), Nystrom (8), Zetterberg (7), Hamhuis (7), Little (7)

4. Anyone who took Crosby in their pool is obviously reaping the rewards right now. But at the time of the draft, when you saw him go in the first or second round, weren't you thinking "he could be out all year!" He's played five games and here are a few notables whom he has more points than: Carter (8), Semin (10), Krejci (10), Grabovski (10), Dubinsky (10). Okay most of those guys aren't too impressive to begin with, but here are players he's within THREE points of (or in other words, players he;ll be ahead of by Saturday): Kovalchuk (13), Ryan (11), Iginla (12), Parise (12), Zetterberg (13), Staal (12), Kesler (14), Heatley (14).

5. Shooting % over 19%: Kessel (19.8%), Giroux (19.1%), Versteeg (19.4%), Seguin (19.4%), Michalek (20%), J. Staal (23.5%), Nugent-Hopkins (20%), Kelly (22.5%), Macarthur (33.3%), Lucic (20.5%)

6. While watching the Capitals play the Rangers last Friday the Caps commentator said "Jason Chimera has been the best skater for the Caps all season and maybe even in the NHL". Huh? Well I (as well as many others I would think) just noticed that he's on pace for career highs with the Caps as a thirty-two year-old. He has nine goals and five assists in twenty-three games (pro-rated 49 pts in 82 games). He is also a plus-seven to lead Washington forwards and has played over 15:25 in each of his last five games. Chimera plays a regular shift with Brooks Laich and Joel Ward.

7. Sticking with the Capitals, I believe John Carlson has potential to come top-five in scoring for defenseman this season. Dale Hunter, his coach in junior, ran the heck out of him for the Knights and had him play a team-leading 23:30 in Hunters coaching debut. With the "play the stars" mentality we will soon see, I don't think it will be long until we see Ovechkin picking up his pace along with another unnamed Russian. Once Green returns, I believe that we could see Carlson on the top PP unit instead of Wideman.

8. Jochen Hecht returned to the lineup four games ago and has been playing with Thomas Vanek and Jason Pominville. He has two goals in his first four games, and while he may not be a long-term pickup, how could one go wrong scooping a guy who's playing with two players in the top six in scoring?

9. Had anyone else noticed that Havlat has been playing a big chunk of his even strength time with Jamie Mcginn and Michael Handzus? He has one point in his last nine games after such a promising start with eight in his first eight. At least last game he saw time with Marleau, Clowe and Thornton...but the team didn't score a goal.

10. I'm going to plug in my Rangers knowledge to these ten thoughts and tell you about Marian Gaborik. Last night, he was the most explosive I have ever seen. Every shift, every shot was an offensive adventure. He was willing to go into the corners and made just about as many dekes as a seven-year-old playing NHL 12. He has nineteen points in twenty-one games, but if you're a big-time gambler, I would take a shot on the injury prone Gaborik.

-----------------------------------

More thoughts will be coming at you on Friday the 2nd! Read and comment!

havent watched many rangers games this season but agree that gabby arguably had his best game of the season against the pens. drew a penalty late in the third with his blazing speed.

I hope the Carlson observation becomes true. I love the way he plays and hope he gets more of what he deserves.

I've been watching the Sharks play (my team) and Havlat has been underutilized, but the team didn't do squat last night at all. They'll keep toying till some lines get scoring again. Havlat is just not in the right place here. I thought he'd do well alongside Clowe and Couture, but that got split up for some weird reason.
