Default [10 Fantasy Thoughts] November 15

From now on I will be doing the thoughts on Wednesdays and Fridays. With this we'll get more quality over quantity. Enjoy and comment!

1. Alex Ovechkin has been 'struggling' so far this season with 7 goals and 14 points in 16 games this season. This season he is on pace for 277 shots. He has had 376, 378, 528, 446 in the last four seasons. His shooting percentage is just about where it should be for a superstar so for whatever reason he needs to shoot the puck more. Who is to blame for the lack of shots?

2. Some exceptional shootings % - Macarthur (27.3%), J. Staal (25%), Wellwood (25%), Lucic (24.2%), Johansson (23.1%), The Nuge (22.6%), Seguin (22.4%), Franzen (21.4%), Giroux (21.2%), Smyth (20.8%). Most of these guys are pleasant surprises so far, but I assume some will be unpleasant surprises when they struggle (in goal scoring) later in the year.

3. Cal O'Reilly has been lining up next to Shane Doan and Mikael Boedker. He played a season high 17:48 last night against Toronto and was set to be the third shooter in the shootout.

4. Aaron Portzline described Marek Zidlicky getting hit by Derek Dorsett last night as being 'blown up'. He left the game and Spurgeon took the role as the PP QB. Yeo was trying out Spurgeon earlier but with a lack of success. He could get a good look with Zidlicky missing 36 games last season.

5. With the injury of Lubomir Visnovsky, it has opened up a spot on the top PP to play with Getz/Selanne/Perry and Fowler. Saku Koivu has taken that spot and if the Ducks can find some offense, he could be a solid four-week pickup. He is only five percent owned on Yahoo.

6. Sticking with the Ducks, they are last in the league averaging two goals per game. They scored 2.87 goals per game last season. That's a pace for 71 less goals. Last season saw Getzlaf (16.2%), Perry (17.2%), Ryan (12.6%), Selanne (14.6%), Visnovsky (11.8%), Koivu (14.4%) as the shooting percentages. This year Getzlaf (11.4%), Perry (10.5%), Ryan (10.9%), Selanne (10.2%), Visnovsky (3.2%) and Koivu (8.7%).

7. Quincey pushed Erik Johnson to the second powerplay last game for the last three games. This of course does not bode well for Johnson owners as he has eight of his nine points on the powerplay. Keep an eye out for the return of Mueller as he traditionally plays the top PP point.

8. Average draft pick of some top ten point leaders for defenseman: Campbell (168), Bergeron (141), Quincey(155), Kulikov(185), Souray(153), Gonchar(153), Leddy(worse than 200th). Would be interesting to see what pick Byfuglien, Yandle, Wizniewski, Seabrook went last year.

9. Adam Burish is having a studly roto season this year. He has played over 16 minutes in 5 of the last six games and last game even saw powerplay time with Eriksson and Benn. This wasn't while the team was down by six either. His numbers will likely go down once Ott is back but he might force his way to sixteen minutes a night, every night, with his strong play. NOTE: JUST ANNOUNCED HE'S OUT 4-6 WEEKS

10. Mike Fisher may have fallen off quite a few radars after last season. He finished last season with eight points in seven games and has six point in nine games returning to totals from a few years back. He struggled last season in Nashville but playing twenty minutes a night next to Erat should help him out this season even if he is on the second powerplay.

Thanks guys! Unfortunately it was announced about an hour after I wrote this that Burish is out for four-to-six weeks.
