Angus, Thanks for the article on goaltending. I have a few questions/comments for you or anyone else who has some insight:
1) Does anyone else think it was a minor miracle that Hasak played the whole season without getting injured? I know they rested him by playing him a bit less but what are the chances that it happens two years in a row for the 42 year old? 2) I too see Giguere back with the Ducks. Do you think that Giguere’s numbers will suffer compared to last year? It must be hard to get up for your 3rd game in November against Phoenix after you have hoisted the cup. 3) Is Luongo still going to play practically all of Vancouver’s games again or will they try to rest him a bit more? When your system depends so much on you goalie being sharp I thought it was risky to ware him out before the playoffs. 4) If Mason were a starting goalie on an average or poor team, say on Florida or Tampa or Phoenix, would he be more then an average starter from a fantasy perspective? He put up great numbers last year but I wonder how much of that was because of the good team in front of him. I don’t think I watched any of the games he played.

1) HAsek for sure gets injured next year.. if he doesn\'t retire first.
2) Giguere\'s numbers suffer for about the first 6 weeks of the season, and then him and the Ducks pick it up and become the powerhouse of the West. 3)Luongo continues to play 75+ games, and continues to dominate, but unless Vancouver gets some scoring help, it doesn\'t amount to anything. 4)The Mason issue is a tough one to peg, as I haven\'t seen many of his games, but I\'m going to say he\'s an above average goalie.

If you ask Luongo, he\'ll tell you he doesn\'t play enough.

Mmmmmmm, nobody here realized that if Luongo played 70 or 71 games instead of 76, the Nucks are maybe out of the playoff.

Bryzgalov/Toivonen/Nabakov/Tampa Bay
Bryzgalov: Consider that Giguere gets resigned. What happens with Bryzgalov? Does he remain the backup with more games? Does he get traded to a Columbus, Florida, Tampa Bay? Does Hiller become the backup in Anaheim? Toivonen: Is Thomas back as the starter? Does Boston trade Thomas to San Jose for Toskala or Nabakov with Thomas now becoming the backup in San Jose or does Thomas Greiss become the back up in San Jose? Does Toivonen become the backup in Boston or does Rask become the backup? I consider that Lewis preferred to work with veteran players rather than develop his younger players. Will Toivonen get more of an opportunity with the coaching change? Nabakov/Toskala: Which one of these two get traded? Tampa Bay: Do they trade for a goaltender? Will Koshechki or Ramo become the starter? |
