Is going to be this years Martin Lapointe (gritty 2nd/3rd line winger who is a hot commodity on the UFA market). Sure they aren\'t perfect comparisons (age, for one), but Hartnell is going to get at least 20 offers. If you are penciling him in to your teams second line for $3-3.5 million, think again. He is going to get a contract near $5 million with a long-term deal. Is he worth it? Remains to be seen.
His value goes up even more with teams wanting to employ the Ducks model of gritty, offensive Canadian players. Fits Hartnell perfectly. Post edited by: angus, at: 2007/06/11 14:27

Good call. It will only seem worth it if he does indeed go to Pittsburgh, I\'d say...

I was thinking around the $4 million mark, but $5 million you think?
Wow. I mean, sure he\'s gritty, but how many points do potential suitors really think he\'s going to put up?

Honestly, I\'m not too sure. He won\'t get that much with his brushes with injury and his career of third lining it in Nashville.
I\'d like to think he\'ll progress into a more productive player(as he CAN score goals), and I really hope he signs with Pittsburgh. He\'d fit perfectly there(I hope).

I was close. Although I still think it\'s at least a half million too much...

he should be on the second line right, with carter right? 30-30 seems reasonable for him. what is his upside now?

Hartnell-Carter-Lupul looks to be the second line right now (although none of them are really playmakers).
Since he is a LW there is no chance he moves up like Lupul could on RW. I\'d say expect a modest increase on his numbers last year.
