I agree with Phaneuf. Even though I'm from Toronto, I have refused to draft any Leafs, including Kessel for the past few years. This year I have Phaneuf in all 5 of my $$$ leagues. After coming back from his leg injury last year, he appeared to me a new man, determined and played with heart... something that we haven't seen since his first years with Calgary. He's going to give you more SoG, Hits and PIMs than Shattenkirk or E. Johnson without any second thought. I'd say minimum he falls in at 40 points unless he gets hurt.
The problem I have with Shattenkirk is he will always be in competition with Pietrangelo. They have also been using Oshie on the point a lot in the first two games. The easy answer is Shattenkirk, but the point differential will likely be a max of 10 points, and that's worst case. I would choose Phaneuf 9 times out of 10 this year and going forward. |

Another vote for Phaneuf. He's a shooter and with goals being 2x I'd go with him.

Shattenkirk is just entering the league, but he did out produce Phaneuf last year and Phaneuf has regressed all of the last 3yrs. I'm a huge Leaf fan but don't really understand why you would be puzzled why someone would prefer Shattenkirk.

It's not Shattenkirk in particular. It's a general trend of loooooving potential dmen who will all score 65+ or something. It's getting a bit out of hand if you ask me.
As for Phaneuf and him regressing, watch him play now and compare that to a game 365 days ago and you'll notice a huuuuuge difference. Passion. He's back.

I ate at the table across from Phaneuf, Elisha Cuthbert and their family at a restaurant Friday night... they were having their thanksgiving dinner.
He told me he has never felt this good and will have a monster year. Maybe it's the Leafs fan in me talking, but I believe him. He's looked amazing the first 2 games. I would take Phaneuf in a goal-heavy league for sure.

Fair enough. I to understand were your coming from with reading some people saying is Elliott a bust, Rundblad is choking blah, blah, blah, blah and I to have very high hopes for Phaneuf this year and love the start. I just have always been very high on Shatts. He has produced at every level and really can't see any reason why he is not going to continue to produce.

Do we have a DION sighting?!?! If Dion gets even close to his old form, he will be a beast. So far so good this year. Asking me today who I would take - sure, give me the DION!!

I think it's clear that Phaneuf should be my 1st choice. But if he's already taken, is Shattenkirk a better option than EJ? Like some people have said, Shattenkirk has Pietrangelo in front of him... EJ has nobody (except perhaps Elliott some day)...
so Shattenkirk or EJ??

EJ is overrated... Shattenkirk is way better.
