Hello Dobber nation!
I'm looking for some wily veterans (I'm looking to win this year, and I am looking for stability from my blueline) who will put up 40+ pts and rack up some PIM's this year (I was weak in this cat last year, and I'd prefer to get PIM's from my D as opposed from a FWD if possible.) I have Green and Weber as my 2 D keepers, and I need to find 3 more D-men in our upcoming draft. I think most of my league is going to be focusing on PTS, and if I can find a guy who puts up points along with solid PIM's, he's the guy I'm talking about. I'd prefer a guy like this over a Peckham type player as 20pts is probably too little if I want to make a push this year. As always, REP for help. Our keeper lists are due next week, and I'll be more specific with potential picks then. Just trying to make some lists now. Thanks!

Usually I try to attend to the thread's question - but I'm going to try to sway you from this theory.
I really, truly think it is smarter to get your PIM straight from Peckham (as a last round pick) rather than lump them in with other defensemen. Consider a 3-man group (1W & 2D): You are trying to acquire 125pts & 250 PIM. Option 1: (Focusing on 40pt D w/PIM) Zdeno Chara, 45pts, 90PIM (probably need a 6th round pick to get him) Brent Burns, 40pts, 80PIM (probably need a 8th round pick to get him) Evander Kane, 40pts, 80PIM (probably use a last round pick on him) Option 2: (Counting on Peckham for 10pts & 175PIM) Thomas Vanek, 70pts, 40PIM (probably 7th round) Ian White, 40pts, 35PIM (probably last round) Theo Peckham, 15pts, 175PIM (probably 2nd last round) Personally, I think one group of players will be much easier to obtain then the other group of players. That's why I like Peckham. But... answer to your question: Chara & Burns. |

Lobo has a solid list - I would add Phaneuf and Letang as well.

Very interested to see what kind of multicat numbers hamonic puts up this year. Giordano and green pitch in with decent pims too (though I realize green is a pretty tough guy to acquire even at this "buy low" point of his career).

If you looking at the gutter levels, go no further than:
Mike Weber (BUF) Clayton Stoner (MIN)

Adam McQuaid and Shane O'Brien are solid depth guys for PIM.
Most of the top guys for PIM/Points have been mentioned already but I would add James Wisniewski into the mix. 100PIM/50 point season is certainly possible if he can stay healthy. Though his PIM has been down the past few seasons but there's potential for solid PIM totals there.

A good late round option (due to an injury shortened season last year, he's way down on Yahoo lists): Marek Zidlicky. If you can absorb a small minus in the +/- category, he's about as consistent as they come for 40 pts, 70 PIM. He gets a decent number of PPP as well (20-25).
Again, in Yahoo mock drafts I've been taking him with my last pick (in 14 team drafts).
