Default Mcbain or Carle

Looking to fill my last defensive roster spot in a points only 8 team keeper.
We have 20 players on our current roster- 12 forwards, 6 dman, 2 goalies
Who will get more points? I'm leaning towards carle for next season because there is alot of defensive depth in Carolina.

Thx in advance!

Carle will surely outpoint McBain this coming season. Long-term, though, I perfer McBain.

Not saying you are wrong, but you seem very definitive about this - how come? Carle scored 35 and 40 points in his last 2 seasons respectively and McBain scored 30 in his 1st full season last year.

Are you thinking Carle is going to take a bump into the 45-50 range? Or do you just think McBain has no chance to hit 36-40 next year?

I see Carle in the safe 38-44 range...but I also see McBain getting a little bump and ending up in the 35-38 range - so not a drastic difference.

Here's the thing though - you know what to expect from Carle, whereas McBain has more potential than just the 30 points he put up last season. Do you think there's no chance McBain hits (or breaks 40)?

Your thinking is similar to my own, fungchen. I see Carle being pretty much the main guy in Philly, with Timonen declining and Pronger's injury issues of late. I don't necessarily see a bump from him, but I see more of the same production as last season (around 40-45 pts).

I do think McBain produces a bit more, but I don't think he surpasses 40 pts. I think a slight bump for him too (around 35 pts) is more likely.

When I said in my post that Carle will "surely" outpoint McBain this coming season, I didn't want to imply that he would "considerably" outpoint McBain. I just meant that I think he will almost certainly outpoint McBain, but not necessarily by a wide margin.

Yeah, this is all pretty accurate I think.

re: McBain - I'm hoping he takes the next step. His value right now is kind of up in the air. Is he the superb offensive D who put up 10 in 14 during his quick stint in 09-10 - or the 30-point guy from last year - or somewhere in the middle? We need to see more.

I like McBain, but he is starting to get squeezed on both ends. On one side he has the vets like Pitkanen and Kaberle ahead of him. On the other side he has young studs like Faulk and Murphy behind him. As long as Pitkanen and Kaberle are around, he won't get primo opportunity. And by the time those two have moved on, Faulk and Murphy will be factors.

I still like McBain's potential, but I'm not terribly excited about his situation, as I am (for example) with Larsson in NJ who doesn't face much competition.

Very true. It's sort of the logjam of young D in Nashville. A couple of vets control top minutes, followed by a group of potential gems in Blum, Josi and Ellis. Franson was moved specifically for this reason.

I think I would rather have Carle as a keeper over McBain - I can't imagine McBain outproducing Carle in the next 3 years given their situations and the perspective that their upsides aren't really that different - McBain by a nose in that department though.
