Rundblad - 50 points in SEL - that's Gretzky-ish
Ellis - 100 pointer in Jr. WOW
Elliott - 30 goals. Fantasy absolutely adores him.
Murphy - must mature.
Smith - very safe in comparison to some others, also older
Voynov - apple is ripe
Orlov - Caps will hold him back for a year
Larsson - hope 2010 reports are bang on
Blum - so much good stuff in Nashville
Barrie - rising fast on my list

In the past 20 years, there has never been such a glut of fine young blueliners in the NHL.

Doughty, EJ, JJ, Green, Yandle, Goli, Carlson, Karlsson, Subban, McBain, Shattenkirk, Pietrangelo, Bogo, Edler, Hedman, Myers, Kulikov... not to mention some of the great stay at home guys. Without question I have overlooked someone very good, that is very young. The day will come when we reflect back on this incredible group of young talents.

Merrill - 25 points in 42 NCAA games as a rookie is certainly promising.

Outside of the Top 10, I'm content to allow the other teams in my pool to own these guys. Essentially, with D-men I wait for the breakout at the NHL level, and they pursue the players I like. The failure rate is just too high. I wish I could support that with statistics, rather than just a feeling I have from 20 years of playing Fantasy. I suspect the failure rate is double or triple of the forwards. This is because a D-man MUST be reasonably competent in his own zone. This is also why many, many high scoring Junior defencemen, have re-organized their game at the NHL level, as stay-at-home D-men with solid outlet passing. Even top picks, such as Klesla, Hickey, Barker, Coburn, J-Bo, Bryan Allen, V Vishnevsky... took much time to adapt, and often didn't find appreciation as offensive players.

Thanks JHM...

I hear ya on trying to own just Top 10 guys, but with our league being a salary capped league, young cheap dmen that can produce are Gold, so if i can carry 3 or 4 Top 20 or 25 guys, and if one of them hits then it's a huge advantage

the other part of that is if a couple guys are getting a ton of hype in junior or the AHL, they can normally be parlayed for a 1st or high 2nd round pick, so the market is great for young dmen who could produce if the situation is right
