Since this is a hockey website, I think we should give some love to:
Fifty Mission Cap - the Tragically Hip I mean, any song that opens with: Bill Barilko disappeared that summer, he was on a fishing trip. The last goal he ever scored won the Leafs the cup They didn't win another until 1962, the year he was discovered. Has to be huge right? ps. New Orleans is Sinking was also 90s... good track

I was 13-23 during the 90s.
That age range has always defined the popular music choice of its era. Smells Like Teen Spirit was the song of the decade. Like it or hate it... it defined the decade. Early 90s grunge is my 2nd favourite music era of all-time... way, way, way behind late 60s rock. (This from a guy with a slowly collected 11,000+ songs on his iPod)

For the record, I don't hate Teen Spirit, I just think its a bit over-revered.
