I expect the Devils plan to use Larsson in the NHL this year but might start him off in the AHL for a few games at the start of the season to help adjust to the North American game.

Starters are likely to be:

Andy Greene, Henrik Tallinder, Mark Fayne
Anton Volchenkov, Bryce Salvador, Matt Taormina

With Adam Larsson, Mark Fraser, Matt Corrent, Alexander Urbom ready for call up with the first injury or poor performance. Of this group of reserve D only Larsson has any offensive upside so depending who might get injured.

To start the season, Andy Greene and Matt Taormina are the prime offensive sparks for the power play. Mark Fayne has some offensive capabilities but clearly the Devils see Larsson as providing that offensive upside but perhaps not much this year.

Ever since I read this thread in June, I've kinda been thinking that he stays another year in Sweden despite whatever happened at the draft.

I know his contract suggests that he'll come over, and maybe he does... But if he doesn't cross the pond then I'm sure that will affect his value in the short term memory world that is fantasy hockey, and I'll be able to scoop him up in a league or two for relatively cheap!

I think he should still be drafted in the 5-7 range in most prospect drafts, and I'd definitely prefer him over Ryan Murphy.

He is in North America next year, already confirmed by himself and Lou. He will opt out of his contract with Skelleftea and either play AHL or NHL.

I agree. That was why they rushed to get Larsson under contract before July 15th. If needed to be under contract by that date to be able to get out of his contract with Skelleftea. I would assume Larsson's level of play and preseason injuries will determine if Larsson starts the season in the AHL or NHL. The one thing I am very confident about is that he will be in the NHL for good before the end of the season.

Yep, I actually recently read somewhere that Larsson signed a deal "without a bonus" because Lou gave him his word that he is guaranteed a spot on the team this year. Quite honestly, for fantasy purposes, I might prefer he spend half a year (or year) in the A.
