O'Reilly Situation:
He has an out clause, apparently the Avs have been talking with his agent. No official offers yet as the CBA needs to be ratified. Once that happens he will be back quickly. As for wearing an Avs uniform I'm a little hesitant. Any time players on the Avs have any kind of contract disputes they don't seem to stay much longer on the team. I hope that changes.

Barrie:
Has leapfrogged Elliott on the depth chart with how well he's played in the AHL. The Avs have 7 NHL D: EJ, Wilson, OBrien, OByrne, Hejda, Hunwick, and Zanon.
Most of those guys haven't been playing this year, so Barrie should be able to leapfrog one Of them. Not to mention outside of EJ and Ryan Wilson occasionally, there is zero offense from the rest of those NHL Blueliners which would kinda suck.

Elliott finished 2012 with 7 pts. in his last 8 gp.... Barrie also put up 7 pts. in that same stretch of games.

In 3 games in the new year Elliott is pointless, while Barrie has 2 pts....

Both will end up going to camp for the Avs.

According to Mike Chambers from the Denver Post, he got a tweet from O'Reilly's agent saying that they are having ongoing discussions.

Rumor has it that O'Reilly is looking for a 5 year deal, at around the same cap hit the Avs are offering him for 3 years.... (3.5-3.7 million/yr) similar to EJ/Duchene.

Avs invites to the abbreviated camp from the AHL include:
Olver, Sgarbossa, Bordeleau, van der Gulik up front and Barrie and Elliott on the blueline

Barrie and Sgarbossa have both had impressive AHL seasons thus far.

News: There are rumors that Ryan O'Reilly - who remains an unrestricted free agent playing in Russia - could remain in the KHL or be traded, the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: It seems unthinkable that the Avs are having trouble justifying re-signing Ryan O'Reilly, who led the team with 37 assists and 55 points last season. Furthermore, the Avs are currently more than $16 million under the 2012-13 salary cap of $70.2 million, so there is plenty of payroll room. According to O'Reilly's agent, Mark Guy, the two sides "are having ongoing discussions," so hopefully a deal gets done in time for opening night.

I heard that O'Reilly turned down a 5 year $17 million deal. Which is decent money for a 3rd line C, which is where the organization sees him, but he wants to get paid as a top 6 guy, looking apparently at somewhere around $5 million/year, hard to pay him that much after one year. Especially based on the pay cut that Duchene took because of one poor season out of three.
