Standard 12 team H2H dynasty league. 25 players per team.
I get Stamkos, Enstrom, and a 16th round pick (still drafting) I give Hall, Ryan Whitney, and Pavelec My team... C - Malkin, Tavares, Seguin, Turris LW - Hall, Marleau, E Kane RW - Hossa, Voracek, Pominville D - Whitney, Streit G - Niemi, Backstrom, Bobrovsky, Pavelec I know most would say to take it, but I'm hesitant. Here's my logic... I can see Stamkos and Hall with similar numbers once Hall gets going. If that's true, Hall has more value since he plays LW, which are not as deep as C. Stamkos is producing NOW, but my team is full of young blue chip players, so I'm not wining next year anyway, so I can wait for Hall and my other young players to start producing. Whitney for Enstrom is fairly even other than Whitney gets more PIM's. Plus I'm giving up a good young goalie. I am also not convinced Stamkos can keep up the pace. Have other team figured him out? Wil he be the same when St. Louis retires or will he produce less like Heatley did when he left Spezza. Even playing with Thornton wasn't enough...not the same chemistry. Hall can produce his own chances and does not depend on others. Even if he does benefit from playing with other good players, the ones on the oilers are not close to retiring like St. Louis. Can someone tell me why I'm out to lunch on this? Thanks |

I get what you are saying about positions. Sure, an LW is worth more than a Centre, but I'd still want Stamkos over Hall and then if you are really desperate later you can trade one of your other Centres to upgrade your LW.
And no offense, but Enstrom is much more valuable, imo, than Whitney. I'm not a big believer in him. He just had a great year, but he has proven to be injury-prone of late and you won't find many dmen in the league more consistent than Enstrom. And although you are giving up a good young goalie, you are totally deep at that position. Stamkos, despite being a Centre, is arguably a top 5 pick in any league, regardless of the format. |

This is a must accept! I understand your logic that Hall "could" produce as good as Stamkos the difference is he won't for at least 2+ years IMO and your team is looking VERY solid to compete during that time frame. Also, it's not like you would be left paper thin at LW...it's actually a pretty stong position even without Hall as your best LW.
Enstrom is a nice upgrade over Whitney as well and losing Pavelec sucks but the overall gain in production makes this a must accept IMO.

I think it's important to recognize that Hall, whatever his potential, is still an unknown quantity in the NHL. I do get where you're coming from, and given Martin St. Louis' history as kingmaker, it's not an outlandish concern. But I'm pretty confident that Steve Yzerman is going to make sure that Stamkos has good supporting players, and more importantly, what we hope that Hall might do, we know that Stamkos can do. Don't believe the "50-in-50" hype - that was ridiculous showboating by the media, in my opinion - but believe that the kid knows how to score goals in this league as well as just about anybody else.
I also think that, lost in this trade, Enstrom is a guy I'd rather own than Whitney. And you might want to devote some attention to your goaltending after this trade, especially on the off-chance that Philly goes out and gets Nabokov or another affordable goaltender who might take over. So yeah, I'd go with the proven commodity, but you're smart to really think it through.
