I\'ve not been hearing too much about anything, though my buddy in Maine(kinda sketchy info, since who in Maine cares about the Washington Capitals?) tells me they\'re looking for a 2 year deal for a veteran centre to help the Caps step up their game.
If this would be the case, I\'d look for these names to be circulated around during the early summer:

-Chris Drury. Veteran and Clutch. Questionable as to why he\'d go there, though
-Robert Lang. I like this. He thrived(led league in points, I think) in Washington before being made a 2nd line C in Detroit. Could be gold with Ovechkin for relatively cheap
-Jozef Stumpel. Would be a cheap, possibly more productive version of Zubrus. Won\'t happen unless other options are removed from the market.
-Todd White. Cheap playmaker who can pass very well. Would get the puck to Ovechkin and not much more. But would still be a good addition and potentially a long term fix for Semin\'s line once Backstrom is ready.

I personally agree with the plan. Help the Caps develop as a team, helps backstrom get ready for duty on Ovechkin\'s line. Done deal.

Gomez would be an AMAZING fit in Washington.

Long term, yes. That said, I think Gomez will want something long term, and I think backstrom\'s development will be too swift to keep him off the top line for too long. So Gomez, a young and expensive option would make sense if they didn\'t have Nik. They have Nik though, and I can only see them getting a veteran presence to help the team mesh, to teach them how to win, and to hold the fort on Ovechkin\'s line until Backstrom\'s ready.

I agree, but circumstances mean it would make little sense. Gomez is no 2nd line Center, and I doubt he\'ll sign a 2+ year contract knowing Niklas is right there.

I like the idea of bringing in Robert Lang or Todd White. They both are servicable 50-60 point Centres who play pretty well on every team they play for.

Why has no one said: Nicklas Backstrom? hes played with Ovechkin before and last year was pegged to be the #1 center... blows my mind everyone has forgotten about him... He\'s a perfect pick...

I am sure that no one has forgotten about Niklas Backstrom. Backstrom will undoubtedly play with Ovechkin at some point. I can undertand why Washington might like to have an experienced centre to alleviate some of the pressure from Backstrom and to act as a mentor to him. There will be huge expectations of Backstrom this year. Washington might want to relieve him of some of that pressure from him. I like the thought of Briere with Ovechkin.
