Default Patrice Bergeron

4T2,

What's your thoughts on Patrice Bergeron for the rest of the season? He was dropped my another manager in my one-year H2H league. He must soured on him by his lack of production over the past couple weeks.

However, he picked up 2 helpers vs. the Devils the other night and the Bruins have a nice homestand coming up where Bergeron has better split stats (33 Home games 13-16-29... versus 38 road games 9-15-24).

I need a replacement for Patrick Sharp, but I'm not rushing into getting his replacement since I'm in a bye week in our playoffs... More or less I'm loading up for the final two weeks. How's he looking out there? Does he seem on his game and healthy or is something amiss?

Your thoughts would be as awesome as your avatar. Thanks!

I will try to post more on Bergeron for you after tonight's game. My guess is 6-8 points for the remainder of the season. I'd like to know what stats you count though. "Standard" makes me think you don't count faceoffs which is one of Bergy's best cats.

It might help to know who else is available. I wouldn't expect spectacular numbers but I expect a solid finish from him and the rest of the Bs. A big win tonight would give them a huge confidence boost though and I could see him finishing off on a hot streak.

Forwards cats are: G,A,+/-,PIM,PPP,SOG.

Baring anyone else's last minute hot streak, it will likely come down to Bergeron and Nate Gerbe.

Obviously Bergeron has a more proven track record but Gerbe is on a roll heading down the stretch. Since I can only start 2 LWs, 2 Cs and 2 RWs each night with daily line-ups, I'm trying to max out as many games as possible with all my forwards. I figure I can squeeze in these many games in the last two weeks:

Bergeron (C) - Week 24: 2-3 games. Week 25: 4 games.
Gerbe (LW/C) - Week 24: 3-4 games. Week 25: 2-3 games.

The wild card here is Parise on my IR. When he comes back I'll have to drop someone, but I'll worry about crossing that bridge later...

Thanks for your scouting report on Bergeron tonight... Big help since I can't see the game tonight where I am. Enjoy the bad blood with the Habs tonight!

EDIT: I'll have to add Tyler Kennedy (LW/C), but he won't get quite as many games in:
Week 24: 2-3 games... Week 25: 2-3 games.

I hate to recommed a Sabre over a Bruin, especially a personal favorite of mine like Bergeron. However, I think that's what I have to do.

Bergeron was amazing last night, playing in the role he is best suited for; an exceptional two-way player. Responsible defensively, a face-off beast and picked up an assist. He had over 2 minutes more ice time than any other Bruins forward. However, they didn't have to count on him for offense as other guys we're making that happen. I think you may see that for the rest of the season. I revise my prediction to around 5 points in the remaining 9 games.

I say go with Gerbe for next week and hope Parise returns to replace him.

Now for a few thoughts on last night's game:

The Fans
Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole... it was AWESOME to hear the Bruins fans mocking the Canadiens with this chant. I nearly spit beer through my nose when I first heard it. This is just a tiny piece of what makes this rivalry so great.

The Quick Lead
While I loved watching them jump out to a quick 3-0 lead, I wasn't going to get my hopes up. Too many times have I watched them blow a lead (although not much this season). I'm also very nervous about them holding a 3-0 lead in anything after last Spring. Finally about 4:30 into the third I was able to breathe a little easier.

Recchi
Great job getting into the heads of the Habs. A true veteran showing exactly why he is still valuable to a team at 43 years of age.

Chara
Was a class act in this game. Didn't let anyone get in his head (I'm sure some comments were made on the ice). He was calm, cool and collected and I didn't see as much as a slash or questionable elbow (he does get them up sometimes) from him. He also took it to the Habs where it counted registering 3 assists.

However, my favorite Chara moment of the night, giving the death stare to Moen when he got in his face. I bet Moen had to get a fresh pair of panties the way he scampered off.

Boychuk
Made a statement early opening the scoring 1:01 minute in and notching an assist on Campbell's goal. Snag this guy in your office playoff pools. He hasn't done much this season, but remember his playoffs last year had guys predicting a big year for him. I think he will surprise a lot of people in the post-season.

Kelly
Not caring much for him yet in his time in Boston. It looks like he may be trying too hard and it's throwing off his game. Hopefully he turns it around soon or I'll be praying for Chiarelli to send him packing.

Kaberle
First goal as a Bruin. Looked great and is really starting to develop some chemistry with his teammates. Keep it up Tomas and you may just be welcome back next year.

Horton
May have been my player of the night had one Bruin not played well above his ability. Looked like he was playing with passion and just generally having fun. He is finally learning that it's okay to enjoy yourself in a winning environment. I think this year was an adjustment period and that he is finally going to reach his potential (knock on wood).

4T2's Player of the game - Gregory Campbell
Well buddy, you've impressed me all season. You're worth more than just helping to escape punishment from the league thanks to your Daddy (at least according to some conspiracy theorists).

2 goals including a beauty of an SHG while down 2 men to give the Bruins their seventh. A spirited scrap with Mara. Campbell only played 9:48 last night, but when he was on the ice, you knew it (and not in the "what was he thinking" Chris Kelly kind of way). I sung Bergeron's praises earlier in this post, but truth be told, if I hadn't looked up the TOI stat, I would have guessed Campbell palyed more than Bergy. He was great last night and definitely a huge bonus in the Wideman/Horton deal.

A link to Campbell's SH goal:

Also, I forgot to mention the Marchand hit on Gomez. Beauty of a hit, shame their head's collided like that though. When I first saw it, I thought Marchand left his feet and I was cursing him for being so stupid. After the replay though I realized it was just an unfortunate postion that caused their heads to smash together. Huge props to Gomez for not even missing a shift and playing hard on the ensuing powerplay.

So did you think the Chara hit on Pacioretty was dirty?
LOL... I kid, I kid. No need to open up that can of $@$#storm.
Good luck with the coverage.

I am actually interested in a few things:

With McQuaid, Kampfer and Boychuk on the roster and assuming that Kaberle resigns, how do you see these guys developing, partners and future point predictions.

Caron, Spooner and knight are all close to being ready so do you think that this playoff run is the last for Recchi, Ryder and some other vets?

Thanks 4T2... I saw they orginally credited Bergeron with an assist on one of the early goals last night, only to take it away later. Guys like Bergeron are needed to stay strong up the middle and play a great two-way game... but if they're not leaned on to put the biscut in the basket, they don't help much for your fantasy squad.

I think I'm leaning towards Gerbe for Sharp... then dropping MacDonald (crap, out for the year!) once Parise comes off the IR. Since d-men off the FA list are slim pickings in my league right now, I'll run with an open slot on defense unless a better blueliner comes along.

BTW... Habs fans are hearing that "Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole!" all over the place. Rangers fans were taunting visiting fans in MSG a week or so ago towards the end of their win... followed by a hearty "U-S-A! U-S-A!" chant in the final minute of regulation. Cheers!
