Default Lehtonen Long Term

Just wondering where you think Kari Lehtonen will be in two years. He is a UFA in my salary cap league and I have him dirt cheap so would like to extend him as long as I can, but his cost goes up with each year I keep him so I don't want to extend him to the point where I'm overpaying him as cap space is huge in the league. Do you see him being a solid starter still in 2 years, 3 years, etc. I know there is always the injury risk, but knock on wood let's hope he's past that. I do know Dallas has some good tender prospects so just wondering if you see any of them passing him by in the near future.

Talent wise, the world should have fully caught on to what Lehtonen represents in a couple years. He's easily a top 10 talent, in the NHL.

Dallas did a good short term rebuild for 2013. They'll need more than Benn in the pipeline (top 3 style forwards) in the near future. Goli is good, but they may be wishing they still had Neal...

They've been a bubble team for a playoff berth the last few years, with some fine leaders and solid goaltending... (Eriksson, Ribeiro, Richards, Neal, Benn, Morrow, Ryder)

I have a hard time seeing Dallas taking a step ahead (long term). Maybe short term, they can have a solid season.

I hope Lehtonen can stay healthy (got him in one league), or Dallas becomes extremely vulnerable.

Lehtonen should stay about where he's at in the long-term.....top 10 goalie in the league. He does look to be past the injuries, unfortunately with Lehts that's always in the back of your mind but I think he's a fairly safe player to own.

In a few years, you have to wonder about Jack Campbell pushing Lehtonen, but right now he's just such a question mark. I don't think Bachman will ever push Kari out of the #1 role, he could start somewhere eventually but I don't think it will be Dallas.

So ya, as long as the price on Lehtonen doesn't get out of control I think he's a good player to extend.
